RIP Stuart Freeborn, the genius behind some of our favorite Star Wars aliens
With the news of the death of TV actor and video game voice actor Robin Sachs only a few days old, today we lose legendary makeup/special effects artist Stuart Freeborn. He was 98.
For those of you who don't know, Stuart Freeborn's best known for creating the creatures of Star Wars, including the classic looks of Yoda, Chewbacca, and Jabba the Hutt among others, as well as his work in other movies including 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Apparently, Yoda actually somewhat resembles Freeborn himself. Remember all the aliens from the cantina in A New Hope? All the bounty hunters and the Rancor in Jabba's Palace in Return of the Jedi? All thanks to this guy.
RIP Mr. Freeborn, and thank you for shaping part of my childhood.
