Rockstar Games is investigating early sales of its latest addition to the iconic sandbox series Grand Theft Auto, according to GameIndustry International.

Online retail giant allegedly broke the street date for Grand Theft Auto V and sent pre-ordered copies out over the weekend. The game is set to release this Tuesday.

Rockstar is not quick to point fingers and instead vows to investigate the issue.

We are in the process of investigating early 'sales' to determine how and why that is occurring,” a Rockstar representative said.

GTA V is expected to be a major title for the industry's coming year. Some analysts have estimated that the game could sell 18 million units during publisher Take-Two's financial year.

Has any Amazon pre-order customers received their copy early?
