[Update] Infinity Ward claims that the voice actor rumor regarding MW4 is false

10/31/12 3:00pm

Update: Infinity Ward claims that the voice actor rumor regarding MW4 is false. Here is their official Tweet.

“Interesting news today, but it’s not true. We’ve not talked with any voice actors, so all news is speculation.”

Notice how they never mention that MW4 isn’t actually in development. Speculation notwithstanding, I’d bet my left nut there will be another Call of Duty game.

The Captain Price voice actor, one Bill Murray, has revealed that Modern Warfare 4 is indeed in development at Activision. And in surprising news it is being developed by Infinity Ward. In an interview with Gamesthirst Murray said

“Yeah, on Monday I am off to meet Infinity Ward about the next game, Modern Warfare 4, I’m doing work on the sequel to Modern Warfare 3, it carries straight on and I only ever appear in the Modern Warfare games…”

I thought for sure Infinity Ward would have been broken apart into SledgeHammer, Raven, Treyarch, Neversoft, and whatever other studios work on Call of Duty. I guess Activision thought the brand was strong enough to survive. Also, I should probably insert a joke about how this isn’t the remarkable Bill Murray who brought us Ghostbusters and Rushmore, but I would rather not besmirch his good name. More Call of Duty guys!

Black Ops 3 is already in development too.

Activision is ruining this series... Treyarc is at least trying to experiment, change how the multiplayer works, do different time settings, meanwhile Infinity Ward just keeps copy/pasting the same game year after year... I'm getting Black Ops 2 because I think it will revitalize the series, but there is no way I'm getting another Infinity Ward game

Same here. I think Blops and Blops 2 are cool because they change things up. I'm looking forward to all the multiplayer refinements (hurry up and release already!) but all the MW games have felt exactly the same to me and I'm sick of them.

In other news, there will be a million more Halo games, Final Fantasy will continue to fall in its downward spiral, and my good friend Link will have to rescue the princess all over again in the near future.

This is the reason why the video game industry is dying. Perhaps not from an economical standpoint (Not even going to deny that CoD makes all the money), but from an innovation standpoint. Call of duty is basically like playing a new Mario Bros. game every year (With a different subtitle added of course) back in the 90s. Each one featuring the same graphics and sidescrolling, but with different enemies and backdrops.. If that had happened.... I don't even want to think about where we would be today

There is one major flaw with your analogy: Mario games were not just dime-a-dozen platformers. Each new Mario platformer innovated in major ways, such as a game-changing power-up, an open-world map system, plenty of worthwhile and fun secrets, and, of course, consistently fresh gameplay per installment. Call of Duty doesn't really do much of that, or at least not nearly as noticeably. Oh, and by the way, the video game industry ISN'T dying. In fact, it's booming due to the increase in our technological knowledge and the industry going mainstream. It's what makes games like Mass Effect 3 and the many CoD sequels possible.

...You totally missed the point of my comment.. I'm saying, Imagine IF super mario were the same platformer each and every year, just trying to make a quick dime off the gaming community. And honestly, technology won't save the industry. It allows us to produce more and more games each year, yeah, but who the hell cares when the games are cookie cutter games that don't introduce any new ideas to tired formulas, case in point the CoD series...

In 15 years, we will all look back while we see our kids play video games on their new consoles or whatever they'll be playing on and say "Wow, I'm going to go play some COD4"

Trust me, it will happen.
