[Rumor] Major Sonic reboot coming in 2014?

Personally I don't mind movie reboots...if they are good but rebooting one of my favourite franchises ever and completely starting over...that worries me.

Sega is planning to make a major overhaul of the Sonic Series, according to the source who spoke to TSSZ (Which is a Sonic fan site). An open-world reboot that introduces “a whole new universe for Sonic to do battle and new characters for him to befriend… in effect destroying most canon that precedes the re-launch and wiping the slate nearly clean.”

SEGA may also have plans to monetize the game via a toy collection mechanic that would work similarly to Activision’s Skylanders series. “The strategy could also be used to unlock extra levels.” Both SEGA and Sonic Team are experimenting with “new gameplay methods and gimmicks”.

“Ultimately, Sega is looking to attract a new generation of fans...that would certainly explain why classic Sonic was touted as a one-time deal for Sonic Generations, but this information also indicates that modern Sonic, as we know him, is at risk as well.”

Man, I hope they don't screw this up. Sonic Generations was an awesome game! They should countinue with the Unleashed(day-time) style and make improvements on it instead of making something entirely new that might be bad. Or make dlcs to Generations with more stages from classic games and new games, I would pay for some extra levels from Sonic 3 for example.

ugh. just let the poor blue basterd die for a few years. then reboot it. there alienating there fan base every time they do some stupid shit like this. sagas sales are lower than they have ever been and this could be the final nail in the coffin. i know that there trying to save there company with this reboot but sonic cant save them every time

As long as Tails and Knuckles are carried over, I wouldn't really miss any of the other additional characters.

Nothing much to say but we'll have to wait and see. I just wish developers would leave video games alone. What is so terrible about a controller and a couch? On top of that, does this mean that we won't have tails any more? The two characters I have always thought of as the heroes of the sonic world are those two. With Eggman being the villain, and Amy being the annoying love interest. If they reboot this series, it will make/break it. Then again, if they reboot sonic and it fails that would probably mean the end for SEGA as a whole...So let's just pray that they do something right for a change.
