[Rumor] Microsoft replacing Xbox Live chat system with Skype for the next gen
The CVG reports a source close to or within Microsoft states the company is planning to ditch the current Xbox Live chat system in favor of a Skype system starting next generation,
The new chat system would be in place by the time the next Xbox is released. It is also part of a large plan by Microsoft to consolidate all their current communication technology and service into a single service based around Skype.
The source added:
Microsoft bought Skype in 2011 for around $8.5 billion and have been rumored since then to be considering how to incorporate the tech into their existing services.

Would be counterintuitive to not also try and place it into the 360 as a kind of test, of sorts.

Not a bad idea, especially if you could call anybody with an skype account, Xbox or no Xbox.

It only makes sense to use what they bought to it's potential. Messenger gets replaced by Skype since it offers a great voice and video chatting (although personally I say the text based messaging sucks worse.) Gets placed on everything Microsoft. (Phone, Tablets, PCs) So now the next step would be to put it on Xbox.

If it means we finally get cross platform party chat on Windows and Xbox, then I'm all for it.
