Even since its grand showing at E3 2011, fans of FPS and sci-fi games alike were hyped for the release of Human Head Studios’ Prey 2. Unfortunately, we haven’t really heard much from either the developers or publisher Bethesda since then regarding the game’s progress, other than the time they said it wasn’t canceled although it’s no longer listed on Bethesda’s site. This has lead many to believe the game has in fact been canceled.
However, the ever so clever snoops over at the NeoGAF
forums have stumbled upon a mysterious new teaser site dubbed "aliennoire.com", which they believe is associated with Prey 2
At one point in the forum discussion, someone posted supposed screencaps of the sites source code, which contained the words “Prey 2”, “Bethesda Softworks”, and “Hothead Studios”. But strangely enough, it was later revealed these words no longer appear in the code, although it does contain the words "Tommy needs your help.” Tommy refers to the protagonist of the original Prey of course.
I suppose this means the original screencaps were either fakes (the use of Hothead instead of Human Head Studios is a bit suspicious I admit) or someone from within Bethesda altered the code to throw tech savvy gamers of the trail.
It should also be said the domain registry has been traced back to a private residence in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, which is conveniently close to the Cherokee Tribal Administration. This serves as another “important clue” since Tommy is of Cherokee decent.
If the de-coding of Alien Noir’s countdown clock is correct, we will witness a big Prey 2 reveal on March 1. But given Bethesda has yet to comment on the situation and considering this is the Internet, this whole deal could very well be an elaborate prank but we’ll just have to wait until March 1 or until Bethesda declares the site to be fake, to know for sure.
