Sega announces Sonic Dash for mobile platforms

3/2/13 9:00pm

If you own a smartphone of any kind, you’ve probably downloaded one of those games where you try to run for as long as possible, like the popular Temple Run for example. Now, it seems as though Sega could be joining the party with the official announcement of Sonic Dash.

While the Blue Blur’s latest mobile venture has yet to be confirmed as an endless runner, Kotaku has received the official word that the game is, however, in development…

"At this time, Sega is able to confirm that we are working on a new mobile game titled Sonic Dash. We have not announced any specific details on the product but we will be releasing additional information on this exciting, new game in the near future.”

I’m not particularly big in the mobile gaming scene by any means, but I have played my fair share of these runner games (I mean it seems everybody and their grandmother is developing them these days) With that being said, I have to say that I think Sonic would be a perfect addition to this genre, especially with his games being focused around speed.

But what do you think g1s? Do you think Sonic could successfully takeover this ever-growing genre? Or should he just leave his running shoes at home? Let me know by leaving a comment below!

Adivce to game devs: When making a game, make sure the genre doesn't have a game staring Shaq. This way, you can determine if the world needs another game like that.

You're too slow! Gotta speed up! Chili dogs! That's no good!

It's about time this kind of Sonic game was made. If everything is done, it should be a pretty entertaining game. The longer the game goes, the more the player gets to experience the true speed of Sonic until it practically becomes just impossible to react fast enough.

atleast it makes sense to make a runner title from sonic.. unlike the sonic jump or whatever it was.. i'm just waiting for a real new sonic game after generations i'm expecting it not to suck.

All the mixed feels this announcement gives. I thought after Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations that the franchise was rejuvenated. I guess not.... Even though this ios genre is more fitting for Sonic than that jumping game, I just hope that this isn't what Sega had in mind to further the character's career. Then again I don't hold the company in very high regards after how they handled basically everything near the end of 2012...

This, sounds surprisingly awesome. Sonic running at high speeds in an arcade get the high score style game. I'm game.

A Sonic Temple-Run Clone would be so awesome. The idea fits so well that it baffles me that they haven't implemented it yet.

This has the pontential to be awesome. I can imagine it like playing through a level from Sonic Rush but it never ends and I have no idea whether there would be a ramp, loop, enemy, or whatever ahead.
