Seth Killian joins Sony and Santa Monica Studios

7/2/12 3:00pm

Seth Killian has announced on the Playstation Blog that he now works at Santa Monica Studios where he is a lead game designer.

Here is a snippet of what he had to say:

"A few of you may know me as a familiar face in the world of fighting games, but I’m writing today to say that I’ve joined Sony as the lead game designer for the external group at the Sony’s Santa Monica Studio. I was excited to join Santa Monica Studio in particular because of the chance to work with some great individuals, but also because of the incredible range of projects they take on."

With Playstation and Seth joining at Evo, this is very exciting. I know I will be there. And from everyone who cares, congrats Seth. Glad to see you happy and good luck to All-Stars Battle Royale.

Gamespot also has an interview on him asking why he left Capcom and joined Sony here

So, if I understand this fully, does this mean that Sony now owns the character of Seth from Street Fighter?

I mean, Seth is Seth Killians alter ego, so doesn't he sort of have to follow the guy?

Sony? Don't they have enough people like Seth working for them? How about joining Nintendo or Microsoft instead? Y'know, the two big 1st Parties that could do with a big name designer at this point?

I dunno, maybe cause Seth, like most people, likes a boss who won't breathe down his neck. You heard the stories about what working at Microsoft is like - fucking Chair Adjustment personnel. And with Nintendo, you gotta keep it kiddy.

Sony actually give their employees complete and total creative freedom - hell, they employ a guy solely to make sure nothing ever gets in the way of their studios ability to make the games they want.

I feel like all he needed to do was participate (be a guest of honor) in The Tester...and now he has a job at Sony. It was probably his fallback plan all along. xD
