Skullgirls patch for Xbox 360 is stuck in Microsoft hell

1/11/13 1:01pm

So there was a recent patch to the PS3 version of Skullgirls that came in at a gargantuan 590 mb, but Xbox 360 users have yet to see it. Well as Shoryuken discovered, Microsoft has a strict policy when it comes to patches and Skullgirls isn’t even close to meeting the requirements. Patches via Xbox Live are supposed to be limited to 4 mb and with the patch being 14750% larger (yeah, that’s right), things haven’t worked out. As the Twitter account reveal

“@PSYCHOFLEX Still working with MS to get the 360 patch out as soon as possible. We're frustrated, too.”

There is a way to apply for a special exception, which is presumably what Mike Zaimont and his team are trying to do. The team also had plans to release “four or five” DLC characters and more than a few sequels. But that was before all the “drama started” behind Publishers Autumn Games and Konami being sued over DefJam Rapstar. Here’s to hoping the developers can overcome these obstacles and get back on track.

What's with Microsoft and fighting game patches... Remember Blazblue CS and Valkenhayn... took 3 frikin months to get that character out for the xbox...

So, what exactly is the patch for? I mean, that is such a large fix that they need to release something thats, essentially, the size of a small game?

Someone who downloaded the ps3 patch -- can you tell us what was in it?

I would love to see sequels to Skullgirls, I think it's a really neat concept and it could really grow and get even better if it became a franchise.

Just do what EA and DICE do every time they release an expansion for Battlefield 3. Don't call it a patch, call it a "compatibility update".

You're welcome.

This limited service is what Live fanboys are happy to pay for? I'm a PS3 owner and if, or when our games get patched we've yet to hear any kind of major issues like this. With the exception of Skyrim (and most other Bethesda games), I personally haven't had any issues regarding patches. Sure enough, I can understand Microsoft want to make sure people on dial up can get their games fixed, but this is 2013, who is online these days and not using braodband?

ROFL! God I love Screwattack! I was JUST on my 360 & wondering why Skullgirls had no update then I remembered I hadn't checked the site since this morning. So I check out SA looking for a few minutes of entertainment before running errands and, Lo & behold, I get the answer to my Skullgirls ?'tion! HA! Here's hoping they manage to work out the issues w/o having to sell their souls or something.
