Sledgehammer Games fights Metacritic pounding
Haters are currently busy stomping Modern Warfare 3 into the ground on Metacritic, giving it an average user score of 3.1/10. Irked by this, Studio Head of Sledgehammer Games Glen Schofield asked folks on Twitter for help:
The Tweet in question has since been removed, after he was attacked by rabid fans accusing him of unfair boosting, which is uncalled-for in my opinion. I don't care for MW3 and am tempted to ignore it because of all the ludicrous hype that's surrounding it, but even I know the game deserves better than a score of 3.1 (or 1.7, which it seemed to be when Mr. Schofield posted the Tweet). Asking people to vote favorably if they like the game is not "OMG B00STING!!!1" but simply an attempt to balance out all the haters on the internet.
But really, I think he should have just ignored the user score. First of all, MW3 has already made enough money to satisfy Dr. Evil and second of all, a user score should never, EVER be taken seriously. People on the Internet are just that: People on the Internet. They only think in black and white. Either a game is OMGWTF BEST GAEM EVAR or LOL IT TTLY SUCKS LIEK UR MOM. Judging a game based on user scores is kinda like getting your musical taste from Youtube comments.

Asking for a score mod is rather pathetic. Sound like begging to me. What they need to do is a major change or two to the next game so the players are impressed and love the game. This can be done in multiple ways; like a deep, gripping story to the single player. Let the single player be co-op for the whole thing not just spec-ops. Do some major changes to multi-player that have never been done in CoD history, or a combo of the listed.

lots of people on the internet are just idiots with a keyboard. Literally they are told to hate something and they will. "COD is a generic FPS so lets hate that". "BionIc Commando had a dum plot twist, its the shittest game ever", "Sonic 2006 sucked Sonic should die". These people are fickle and incapable of developing there own opinions, they probably haven't even played COD and they shouldn't be taken seriously.

Don't feed the trolls Sledgehammer Games. That's the kind of action that just makes them come back for more.

am i the only one that finds this to be absolutely hilarious? it really doesnt matter about the user scores since MW3 sold like a shit load

why should someone who poured their time and effort into a game that they know is great stand by and let people just bash it because it's 'the popular thing' i commend the guy asking fans of the series to go over and give 'honest scores' it's not like he even was asking for 10's, just for people who loved the game to rate it apropriately, when i hear about this incident all i hear from the hater side is 'u mad'

Whether they changed a lot or not, the game is still great and doesn't deserve that ridiculous score. MW3 is well-made and polished, and I don't see why it's getting slammed by all of these people for not changing anything. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

While what you are saying can be true for certain things when it comes to COD if it isn't broke why release the same one 3 or 4 times?

It is not the same. Each game makes tweaks to the formula. MW3 has changed around the killstreaks to pointstreaks, which completely changes the game. It has added a whole new survival mode in addition to plenty of new spec ops missions. There are more maps on disk in the multiplayer than any other game. The weapon leveling system is new. Brand new weapons have been added as they always are. Last but not least, a new campaign has been added. How can you say that they have been releasing the same game. Same formula, not the same game.

Fair enough dude but the same thing happens in the music industry and it doesn't stop stuff from going stale, new album, new lyrics, new music but if its much of the same thing it get slated by people who wanted more whereas the loyalists will love it. I understand CODs appeal to a certain extent but at the same time i think it is ridiculous that people can't accept that it's going to get stick especially these days when in the already saturated shooter market gamers are looking for the next big step.
