Slide pad is now the Circle Pad Pro in the west

10/31/11 12:40pm

Last week we received word via trademark that the slide pad for 3DS was going to be officially marketed as the Circle Pad Pro.  Capcom recently confirmed that this would in fact be the name of the accessory in an interview with Eurogamer. Assistant producer Tsukasa Takenaka had this to say about the device:

"For certain people, playing the game with the Circle Pad Pro, they may find it's easier to control the characters, and therefore it does make the game a little easier. As soon as we found out Nintendo had this peripheral, we thought this is something we can use to provide another bit of customisation for the game. We instantly decided to support it."

Since Resident Evil: Revelations will be the first game on the 3DS to support it, there is a pretty good chance we will expect to see it here sometime around January 27th, 2012. It will also be supported in Monster Hunter Tri-G for 3DS and most likely future titles where a right analog stick would make sense. The name seems fine, but this still seems like a rather bulky attachment for a button and second slide pad. Will any g1s be getting this accessory with his or her purchase of the new Resident Evil?

I really don't see why a game that's mean to be portable should require this, but I guess it makes sense in Japan? I'm fine playing games like Mario and Pokemon on my portable consoles, Monster Hunter and Resident Evil really belong on home consoles...

Not a fan of this. It looks awkward and it puts the screen off center from your hands, which normally wouldn't be a bid deal but with the 3D turned on it might make it difficult to find the 3D "sweet spot". I will wait for the reviews and see if its really needed to play any of the games I want. I will get Resident Evil: Revelations but the Circle Pad Pro...well we will just have to wait and see.

I played the game at Comic-Con without the circle pad pro and the controls were still good. So probably not.

Wait, what is that poster in the background? Mega Man Battle Network? Why? There can't be a new game, can there? I wish I lived in Japan.

I'm still not getting the system until its built into a remade version. Besides, the DS had a bunch of remodels which got consistently better with remakes.
