It looks as though Sony and SuperBot Entertainment will be going separate ways. As for how this departure will effect SuperBot's PlayStation All Stars: Battle Royale, Sony released the following statement to IGN, saying that all future DLC will be handled by Santa Monica Studios...
"Sony Computer Entertainment can confirm that the working agreement with developer SuperBot Entertainment has amicably ended. We have had a positive working relationship with this talented studio, and wish them the best of success in their next endeavor. PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale and the title’s forthcoming DLC releases will continue to be fully supported by Santa Monica Studio."
However, the developer also had something to say about the two companies parting ways, as the "award winning" studio is currently seeking a publisher for their future titles...
"SuperBot Entertainment can confirm that the relationship with SCEA has ended on good terms. We are extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to work on with Sony on Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, and are extremely proud of the work we have done. SuperBot Entertainment will continue working on projects that reflect our passion for games and our commitment to creating award winning titles. We are very excited about beginning the next chapter of our future and invite all of our fans and supporters to follow our journey"
Many are speculating that the lack of critical success PlayStation All-Stars generated, lead the two companies to part ways, and that this could be the last we see of Sony's mascots duking it out. But what do you think g1s? Will we see SuperBot go on to bigger and better things? Or was being partnered with Sony their only chance? Leave your thoughts in the comment section!

A shame that this happened, but oh well.

K so you people bitch about madden and COD everyear being the same game and this is an example of why they dont change things because you just wanted another smash bros. This game was good in its own right people just didnt give it a chance. A second installment would have been much improved. To bad everyone cant look past smash bros. Which is a great game im just bring up a good point.

When the game tries so hard to be like Brawl, it makes it very hard not to make comparisons between the two.
My major problem with PSABR wasn't that it was different. Hell, I welcomed something different since I first heard about it.
(In fact, I was kind of hoping it would be somewhat like Playstation Heroes, only, y'know, not lame. Why not, right? I mean, most of the characters in PSABR come from action platformers anyway, so it's not like it would be too much of a stretch. Or maybe, it could have been an RPG of some sort? Again, why not? It would probably have turned out a great deal better than it has so far)
It's what they chose to keep the same that I didn't like. Like I said, PSABR was trying to emulate Brawl in some ways, but they chose the worst things about it to imitate-- like the super moves, and the balance issues. I figure that, by the time this game had been in development, they must have learned people despised how things were in Brawl. They must have, Brawl was out for a while before this came out. So, when you see stuff like that repeated, it feels almost like it was done deliberately.
And, adding to my rather cold, critical reception of PSABR was the astounding lack of polish.
For example, how long did it take before they made it where you could actually pick your own character? Well after launch, that's for damn sure. That should have been fixed during the beta phase, because, again, it's too big of a problem to just miss. There was also massive slow-down, and terrible lag while I played the online mode, and I counted at least 11 matches where somebody-- if not myself-- got disconnected multiple times.
So, while some might have disliked the game just for being somewhat similar to smash bros., (due in large part to them being ravenous Nintendo fanboys), I actually did look past that, and found that it had a few problems that hindered my enjoyment of it.

Hopefully Sony will hand this new IP off to another developer. The groundwork has been laid for what could be a great series.

I would be lying if I said that this was a surprise. From the moment I played the demo; the whole game just screamed lackluster.
I wasn't a fan of the character roster for the most part (Cole/ Evil Cole, and Big Daddy, were my biggest gripes in that department.) and it didn't really have that same kind of feeling to it that Smash Bros. did. With Smash Bros, you could actually say that the characters presented are actual "All-Stars". Characters like Mario, Link, Samus, etc are classic, iconic and extremely well-known-- whereas most of the characters in PSABR are either
1) too new to be an All-Star (InFamous 1 came out like 2-3 years ago, plus New Dante, and Raiden are only there to promote upcoming games)
2) too obscure to be an All-Star (I didn't feel like Inoue was a very requested character-- at least not in the states-- and I have no clue what Gravity Rush and StarHawks even are),
or
3) weren't even Sony characters (Big Daddy-- as was pointed out many, many, many, MANY times).
Then there were several huge glitches that really shouldn't have made it past testers, but did anyway. You can't tell me that someone just missed not being able to select your own characters, or Sly Cooper being unable to dodge/block. Those are really big problems, and you'd be bound to run across them with any amount of play-testing.
And finally, I return to the claims that this game is a smash bros. clone. I believe that there is some validity to these statements, because it *DOES* try awfully hard to be like Smash Bros-- but it tries to be like Brawl; the low point in an otherwise great franchise.
I don't wanna hear about how you're tired of the comparison being made. Same genre, very similar mechanics, and PSABR's in direct competition with Brawl. Bottom line: it's going to keep happening.
Anyway, back to the subject. It's trying to be like Brawl-- a very disappointing entry in the Smash Bros. Franchise, I felt.
For example, Super Moves. They are basically Final Smashes-- which people said were lame, and bitched endlessly about how they ruined the game by taking away any skill that it might have required. And yet, whenever I make this comparison, the same people who cried BS about Final Smashes jump in and declare that Super Moves are totally different somehow, and they actually improve the gameplay.
Then you've got your balance issues. Now, I've seen Radec players win just by spamming -> + Triangle many times and that's incredibly lame, but the one you see and hear about most often is Kratos.
Don't give me this BS about how Kratos is "easy to be good with", because all that means is that his entire moveset makes it where, even if you had no idea what you were doing, you'd still win nine times out of ten. Cheap is cheap, and trying to dress it up doesn't change what it is, ScrewAttack staff.
And of course, you also have the Super moves that last longer than they should, so players can essentially just kill you as soon as you respawn. Now, normally, you'd hear people talk about how that's really lame and it's why they totally hate Brawl, but for some reason, it's okay when PSABR does this..
I'm just ranting at this point, so I'm just going to bring this to close.
PSABR is an oversized disappointment. It tries to be like Brawl (which already sucked), but has none of the things that Smash Bros. has going for it.
I didn't buy it when it first came out, don't plan on buying it when its price inevitably drops, and I really don't care to see a sequel for this game-- regardless of who the developers will be next time.
So, so long SuperBot. Hopefully, your next game won't be so mediocre.

I'm surprised to hear that game didn't sell all that well

ill we see another PSASBR 2, maybe, maybe not. Keep in mind people that this may not be a choice made because Sony doesn't value the PSASBR brand but rather just lacks trust in SuperBot itself, so we'll see I guess.

There could be a chance for an All-Stars two, but it's not likely to involve SuperBot. May happen with Santa Monica. Or heck, throw a curveball and Sony decides to team up with either Namco or Capcom to make it.

Pity. All Stars had great potential, but a rather poor execution.

My biggest complaint, well my only complaint about the game is there's no OOOOOOH!! factor in it.
