Sony patent wants to pause games for advertising
How tricky is this?! Sony thinks that they can force a game to pause and then run an ad. I bet that will go over swimmingly with the already butt-hurt gaming masses. The patent illustrates a racing game being played, then warning lights blast and poof! An ad appears.
It will alert you before gameplay resumes, but I wouldn't consider this “gamer friendly”. The scuttlebutt around the office is that Sony could try and use this in free-to-play games or demos. I would even go as far to say they could subsidize a AAA title using this tech. What you guys think?

I get that Sony is trying to pick up their financial slack, but this is unacceptable. If this is implemented, I will no longer buy Sony products of any kind.

I would understand if they only did this for game demos and free to plays... but integrated in a full retail game will KILL the ps3 and any new sony product

If they input this in the next generation, I'll never forgive sony. And I have been a Sony fan for a good while and sat through quite a bit of crap as a modern consumer. And I use that term "modern consumer" lightly. Anyway, in-game advertisement, while probably lowering game prices are inexcusable and will completely break immersion. Just imagine playing Shadow of the Colossus and having a McDonalds's ad come in right while your close to finding one of the beasts. I wouldn't put up with it, and neither should Sony fans. Granted, it's simply a patent, but I'm still peeved about the idea of it's existence. Sony, do not want.

Sony: Either stick with in-game product placement, or only show ads while we are waiting on the loading screen. DON'T pause my battle in Wild Arms just because some marketing craphead tells you to put up advertisements for shoes in the middle of the game I am playing.

i think sony is trying to ether see what they can get away with or trying to purposely flop there own console for some reason
