Sony is pulling PSP games to prevent Vita from being hacked
PSP was dead on arrival for several reasons in the West. Sure the library was rather weak and the PSP was pretty expensive, but it was all the hacking that really hurt the chances of the PSP being a platform leader. Now it appears the PSP still haunts Playstation platforms, as the Vita is being hacked because of a little security leak using PSP emulation. The hack has so far been limited to two PSP titles, Hot Shots Tennis and Motorstorm Arctic Rift.
The hack comes from downloading the titles and running them on the Vita in “PSP mode”. An upside is that because the Vita is using emulation, hackers still can’t access the full power of the Vita. Because these two titles allow the hack to take place, they have momentarily been removed from PSN. Hopefully there will be a fix for that very soon or else the Vita just lost two pretty good PSP titles from its library. Oh and PSP users are out of luck too. All five of them…
What's the news with PSP games being ported to Vita? Any new news in that department. I really want to see the PSP library show up on the Vita with it's awesome screen. Rather not buy the PSP disks to later learn I could buy them for the Vita and download them and buy them again.
As much as I'd rather it wasn't hacked, I agree that I want that region lock gone. That's the only reason I want the 3DS hacked.
They do it simply because they can. It presents a challenge to them, and by hacking it, they beat that challenge and make themselves feel good. I guess it's not too different from what I like doing - modifying stuff to extend it beyond its original capabilities. Same thing here, except I don't like to jump into legal matters head-on like some hackers do (whether they do it intentionally or not).
The Vita hacks are old news, and already fixed. Fixed being that they were removed, but Sony was apparently going to patch the games and put them back up on the store. The 3DS has a much worse case of hacking at the moment. ROMs have been dumped, save files can be backed up, and DS flash carts still work on the thing (only the patchable ones, but they get patched up ever time Nintendo puts out a firmware update, so it's another cat-and-mouse game like the Wii and PSP).
For those who legitimately make homebrew games or other software. Not all programmers are thieves.
I don't see a reason to mod the Vita, I wonder what motivated those hackers... maybe they were just thieves.
Sony, hackers are gonna find a way its sad but true.
make that 7. People making Vita out to be this Mega thing but to be honest with what sony has done with this thing I ain't picking one up for a Long time the psp is much more user friendly (no I do not mean hacking) so really has been pissing me off lately and to be honest this isn't going to prevent nothing the Hacking community is strong on Handheld front this brief peace moment won't last long at all. P.S. I love my hard copy psp games special my limited edition's one's yeah little bias here
Better make that six PSP owners, friend. Not that I've bought any PSP games as of late...then again, I DID buy Corpse Party on launch day. Great game, btw. ;)
so ff type-0's NA localization will be for the HD Vita remake only tho right? I is sad as buying a vita currently just aint gonna do it for me.
I've got one too and I love it! Since I bought it I haven't touched my DS.
I got mine in a box somewhere...
I personally very much enjoy my psp it has amazing final fantasy games and is probably one of the better hand held platform's when it comes to rpg's to tell you the truth i hated my DS.
yeah because THAT strategy has worked so well in the past... piracy & hacking are a Pandora's Box once a way to open it has been found there is no way to stop it.
that is EXACTLY what sony did with the other OS with the slim line once they learned that it could POSSIBLY be exploited as a back door into the system... BEFORE GEOHOTS shenanigans and for the REST of the models AFTER them. Look how THAT workd. Once Pandora's box is open it can't be shut. The next step after these two games is the rest of the PSP library as hackers learn how to exploit them as well. As such we can pretty much count PSP Emulation & Support's days numbered at this point.
HOLY FUCKING SHIT! I SO CALLED IT!!!!
it's starts with those two titles but as soon as hackers find a way to exploit others you will see them disappearing all togeather.
For a second I thought you mean't ALL PSP games were gone. I was like "OH SHIT, PSV doesn't stand a chance now..."
Good to see it's only two games, but let's hope it doesn't get worse.
sending a simple cease and desist letter should be more than enough to get these sites to stop hosting material that allows piracy, it's not going to work 100% of the time but at least it will show people that SONY is watching and willing to fight these sites if it comes to that
O_O That's Pretty Bad Ass....I'm not going to lie....something I thought the 3DS could pull off with it's In Built Camera...Sony Does what Nintendon't in this case O-o I know I parodied the Sega thing....couldn't resist
