Sony shuts down Zipper Interactive
Editor's Note: It always sucks to see a studio shut down. Here's hoping the members of the Zipper development team quickly land back on their feet.
Last week it was rumored that Zipper Interactive was being shutdown by Sony. Yesterday, Sony confirmed that it is indeed shutting down Zipper Interactive. The company sent the following statement regarding the closure to Game Informer:
Zipper was founded in 1995 and acquired by Sony in 2006. It's a sad day when a studio shuts down, but for some reason a lot of people saw this coming with MAG and SOCOM 4 not doing so well in sales. With that said, best of luck to all that worked at Zipper and I hope the people who work there find a new home.
So g1's, what was your favorite Zipper Interactive game. Mine would be SOCOM 2.

I hate it when studios are closed down by a bigger company that acquired them. At least they made a few games when they where owned by sony. When ea acquired Pandemic ea only let them make 1 game before shutting them down.

I never played many of their games, nor really liked many, but I do have to say it's still sad to see a game company go under. My best wishes to those from Zipper in recovering.

MAG deserved to do better in sales. IT was a lot of fun

Same. I had fun with it. I still hop on now and again.

Sony just can't seem to do anything right nowadays can they?
Tpayne80
What do u mean? People saw this coming ever since MAG came out.
alondite345
They can't keep their 2nd party developers going.
Tpayne80
what the hell are you talking about? Zipper was a first part developer.
alondite345
No, a first party would be Sony. Zipper was owned by Sony, therefore it is a 2nd party.
Tpayne80
No a first party developer is owned by someone (in this case Sony) and a 2nd party developer would be a developer under contract.
