Sony WWS President Shuhei Yoshida confirms PSN games will not transfer to PS4
With the PS4 being announced and some of the finer points being detailed, we are beginning to see there may be a few major disappointments. For me this is probably the biggest. Alongside the confirmation that the PS4 would not be backwards compatible, Sony WorldWide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida dropped a bomb when he revealed that PSN games won’t be backwards compatible either.
By switching from the PowerPC Cell processor in favor of the x86 AMD Octo-Core, this isn’t much of a surprise. BUT I have over a hundred games that would be completely useless should my PS3 disappear. And we still aren’t completely sure how this will affect PlayStation Plus subscribers. According to Gaikai, all previous PlayStation games will eventually be streamed, but that’s “long[er] term”. Hopefully there are other plans Sony has yet to reveal.

The price of home consoles is ever increasing, yet the cost in building a decent gaming PC has generally remained static. I find that with PC being a strong indie game platform, very frequent Steam sales, Moding communities, and more reliable hardware (You built it), PCs are a far more economical choice IMO. You also have the ability to play RTS and Strategy games without control stick frustration :D .
Sales on console games are NEVER near the deals found on Steam, I'm talking 66-75% price cuts - The savings add up quickly and certainly help rationalize spending $400 on a graphics card that will suffice for 3-4 years.

It's called inflation, and consoles aren't really getting more expensive when you factor it in. The problem might be that people feel the need to buy more than one gaming platform these days, even though the consoles are becoming more and more similar.

I imagine a world where game creators just give the finger to all console manufacturers. Leaving everybody with the freedom to just play any game and to be able to upgrade their own damned machines. Master Chief, Mario, Kratos, and Gordon Freeman holding hands and spinning under a rainbow. That's a world I someday want to live in.
Oh what am I saying? Pick a team, wear the shirt, know your roll!

The reason video games are even half as good as they are today, is because of the competition that the console wars creates.
Console makers like Sony and Nintendo are actually paying new development teams the money they need to make video games. Embrace the consoles.

Here is what I'm going to do. I'm going to put my PS4 right next to my PS3 on my entertainment center. Problem solved. Boy, I'm a genius.

I assume they will eventually find a way to emulate the PS3 hardware onto the PS4. It's just a shame that they aren't sticking to the Cell technology. That stuff was cool.

Pretty much the only thing its making me sad wit hthe PS4...the CELL was a beast...with 8GBs and more SPUs...man...it would destroy anything with how amazing the new tools for it are going right now withthe PS3. Unfortunately, money talks better than wishes, and so, were are going with old half assed x86...congrats for the industry that dont have to try and make something better/less resourse roguing than X86 archtecture....

More and more developers seemed to be embracing the Cell technology too in recent years.
