Spy Vs Spy to bring MAD wackiness and cartoon violence to iOS platforms this summer

6/24/12 12:28pm

If any of you happen to be a reader of MAD Magazine, I’m sure you’re quite familiar with the comic strip Spy Vs Spy, in which the “cleverly” named Black Spy and White Spy, engage in the ultimate battle of one-upmanship by setting deadly traps for one another.

WB Games announced on Friday that it’ll be bringing a game based on the strip to iOS devices later this summer, complete with a two-player online multiplayer mode.

The announcement was made using  the following teaser image:

If you want to try to solve the secret code yourself, I wish you good luck, but since Joystiq was able to solve it, I’ll provide the answer for those who don’t but I’ll change the text color so you’ll be able to skip over it if you want to avoid the spoiler.

White and black spies resurface -(stop)- iPad -(stop)- iPhone -(stop)- iPod Touch -(stop)- online two players -(stop)- this summer -(stop)- this message will self destruct in five seconds -(stop)-

It’s currently speculated this will be a remake of the classic (well, I think it’s a classic anyway) NES Spy Vs Spy game but that has yet to be confirmed. Seriously, I loved hiding my Top Secret plans from and plating traps for my nemesis, while trying to steal his secrets and avoid his traps at the same time. It was just a great bit of unpredictable fun.

Have any of you g1s played the original? Are any of you interested in this potential remake?

It's hard to resist simply looking at the player 2 screen to avoid any traps.

YES! Spy vs. Spy was a really fun game! I saw the MAD cartoon with its Spy vs. Spy shorts, and I thought it was really funny. I haven't seen the comic strips though. A remake of the original would be awesome. Oh wait, I don't have an iPod Touch, iPad, or an iPhone. Darn.

The Cartoon Network Spy Vs. Spy animations were great. The music on it is repetitive, but catchy.
