Square Enix can not “let Final Fantasy XIV end in failure!”
Considering all of the bugs and general misdirection to the point where many say the game as “broken”, “incomplete”, and even “unplayable”, it’s quite easy to see how Final Fantasy XIV became the long-running RPG franchise’s least popular and least successful entry to date.
Square Enix has spent the last two years developing a massive reboot entitled Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, (which has been worked on by a mostly different team than that of the original game) is the company’s way of rectifying the mistakes made in the past.
Producer Naoki Yoshida not only hopes this reboot will be a success but he says it absolutely has to be a success.
Yoshida would also say A Realm Reborn is not only an attempt to make the game more appealing, it’s a chance to restore the fans faith in the franchise. If Square fails to restore that faith, Yoshida believes it could have disastrous results on the franchise, including Final Fantasy XV never becoming a reality.
A beta for this massive reboot is expected to launch sometime between October and December so perhaps then we’ll get a better idea of whether or not this will be the MMO’s saving grace. Hopefully, it will be.

[Sees the words "Final Fantasy XV never becoming a reality" and thinks back to the "top 10 franchises that should die"] Someone might get his wish fulfilled.
But I must say that I am interested in playing XIV. Might get it some day.

If you're on the fence, really give it a shot. I hated it at launch too, but my friend started playing it and told me they fixed a lot of the bugs already, so I jumped back in. It really is a very fun game, and for what they're planning for "A Realm Reborn", things are looking up!

I don't want Final Fantasy to fail. If they can recreate Final Fantasy XIV to be a good MMO, I see no reason for me not to get it. I'd rather they just make the classes into the Warrior, Monk, Black Mage, Ninja, etc, but from what I heard, they did that in XI, and that wasn't much fun. Are they ever going to go back to making a Final Fantasy game with combat based on the ATB system? That'd be cool if they did, and it turned out to be really good.

Damage the legacy? what do they think X-2, 13, 13-2 and jesus christ if they make it, 13-3 is doing?

Will have to wait and see for the PS3 version.

Got to give them points for not giving up. I'm a long time player of the FF games and I find it kind of (for lack of a better word) sad that there hasn't been a good FF game lately. Although I'm likely not going to play XIV I do hope they get a good FF game out of FFXV. I'm not too confident in them though

I really hope XIV will be able to do well after this reboot but unfortunately I don't think it will. The game has the potential to do well. I think it just released at a really bad time. It came out when the market is supersaturated with other MMOs. Also, SquareEnix should have waited for XI to die before realeasing XIV.. Which was unlikely at the time because the abyssea add-ons that had just came out were REALLY GOOD and it brought a good amount of old players back into the game. So essentially Square was competing with itself along with the other gazillion MMOs at the time. Right now the whole MMO hype has diminished a lot and Blizzard still controls most of the market with WoW (and I assume people will want to keep playing WoW because that panda expansion).
Anyway, I think the smart thing for Square to do is to make XIV free to play and charge for microtransactions. Also perhaps offer a 50% discount to XI subscribers if they also play XIV. This way they won't be competing with themselves as much.

I can't wait to try the Beta.

"there hasn't been a Final Fantasy game that has failed". Has SE heard the overall feedback of the last few FF's? I haven't played them all, so I can't be accurate but I've mostly heard negative things about FF's 8, 10, 11, 13, and 14.

I think by "failed" they mean made less money than it took to create. But you must have a small sample if you've heard mostly negative things about 8 and 10, that's just crazy talk.
