Square Enix's new CEO states the company needs to make some changes and quickly
During a recent interview with Infospeak, Square Enix's new CEO Yosuke Matsuda stated the company must be urgent with its reforming process in order to solve their current financial problems.
Besides the need to improve their overall finances, he believes the company must also do a better job reforming on how they view games in terms of sales expectations and development. Games would benefit the most due to no longer being quickly labeled as "failures" because of unrealistic sales expectations.
While those changes would be very beneficial to the company, other changes might not be for consumers. Matsuda also hinted as part of the urgent changes needed, the company might focus a lot more towards DLC and microtransactions for their games. His reasoning is due to market changes and online gaming being a huge force in the industry.
They needed to remake the MMO though, it was getting TERRIBLE feedback from the beta testers. Since they remade it the testers have been loving it. I know because most of my friends are hooked on it already.
they are making Kingdom Hearts 3.
You do know that they've remade at least the first FF game multiple time and that they are working on KH3, right? Even showed off videos of it at E3. Ironically that game is getting delayed because SE is having money problems...
So... as opposed to grabbing the massive cash there is to be made in remaking the existing content of the first... I guess 8 or so Final Fantasy games, or... I dunno... KINGDOM HEARTS 3, they're making mobile games. Neat.
S-E's sun is setting, and its masters are desperately trying to stop that star from moving, an act that is simply impossible.
so basically what I am getting from this is: "we need to make more mobile games with tons of micro-transactions"
I still want Dragon Quest X and Slime Morimori 3 Dragon Quest to make it to North America.
Or in a more realistic sense all of their future games will have outfits/weapons from FF7 in attempt to "appeal to the fans". Square Enix has been milking a handicapped cow for the last couple of years, resulting in drastic changes needed from all that time and money wasted.
Squre made FInal fantasy 1-6 in HD put it one one disk, people would buy that, i think the remakes on GBA ,DS, PSP and soon the remake of 10 on PS3 and vita
That thumbnail pic was PERFECT. I honestly hope they get their act together and learn that the FF community is torn and beaten. We want to see it rise to better things but have to judge and criticize for the things that don't work. How else can they improve but by hearing what the consumer does or doesn't like in a game?
People always say that VII would be good for a remake but as much as I want it, also, it's not the right time. They need more original things that don't suck or not up to the standards that we've seen from them, before. They need to find out what we miss about their games and stop expecting them all to sell a bajillion times more than they do.
Realistic goals and good listening skills is what I hope for them in the future.
Ask your current and potential customers what they want SE
Honestly, I think it would be wise to put FF on hiatus for a while. Its had a good run but needs a breather, evident by the less than great fan responses to recent installments; to degree the same can be said about KH, with all the spin-offs and side games its had lately. If Square Enix wants to pick itself back up, I think its best choice would be to start working on some original IP's. I know they have the capability to make a good, original game, with my personal favorite example being The World Ends with You.
On a side note,I would love know the source of that thumbnail XD
SQUARE ENIX HAS MADE GOOD GAMES AND THEY ARENT REALLY ALL THAT COSTLY....FINAL FANTASY IS STILL HITIITNG TILL THIS DAY...AND THEN YOU HAVE KINGDOM HEARTS WHICH I ALSO THINK IS A GOOD HIT I THINK THEYRE DOING PRETTY GOOD THEY JUST NEED TO FIND A WAY TO CATCH UP WITH EVERYONE ELSE
A handheld version isn't what the fans want, though. They want a FF7 with awesome graphics. Instead of making like fifty versions of FF13, a reboot of FF14, and all this other nonsense they've been doing - if they had been putting all that work into a ff7 next-gen remake, their money troubles would be over and the fans would be the happiest people ever.
Unfortunately making a game cost money and FFXV is probably costing them an arm, and a leg right now. A FF7 Remake is probably better relegated to handhelds which would be much more cost effective and more likely to make them money after everything's evened out.
It's actually very simple. Stop making costly games, stop scamming people on your mobile front, and lastly make good games. Look at Monolith Soft, one of the companies that split off from Square. Their games are cheaper but awe inspiring, because they prioritize content over flare. Xenoblade is just amazing and easily could have been Final Fantasy XIII if Monolith was still a part of Square Enix. Instead we got a train wreck XIII that lead to slightly better sequels. I haven't played 14 a realm reborn yet, but the original seriously needed some better judgement before being released.
Final Fantasy in particular needs to be less about what crappy story can we make seem good and what can we get away with, and more about which gameplay elements work and singling out which ones don't.
Quick! Make another mobile game or FF13-4!
I'm gonna go ahead and disagree with my compatriots here. I don't believe an FF7 remake will actually bank much. Quite frankly, remakes are just another bad idea. They need new releases on consoles and they need to go back to their roots.
I vote on dusting off that 13 year old Chrono Break trademark.
Like I've said before, they claim there's finance issues, and yet they have enough cash to make 2 sequels to Final Fantasy XIII, which no one that I know wanted, and to remake an MMO from scratch.
If they remade FF7 for the PS4 / Xbox One they'd make a bazillion dollars instantly.
Remakeing Final Fantasy 7 would take to long...unless it was on 3DS or Vita
