The state of Nevada has legalized online gambling
While this won’t affect many of you g1s, it is a glimpse into how gaming will be changing. Already we see companies like Virgin Gaming are letting gamers put their skills on the line for cold hard cash, now the sinful state of Nevada has legalized gambling online both intrastate or otherwise. In most cases this will help online Poker players get a bigger piece of the $35 billion dollars in online gambling worldwide, but it might also help social gaming giant Zynga.
The developer has already set its sights on the nearly $2 billion generated from social casino games. These games allow players to purchase virtual chips, but never cash out; netting companies interested in their demographic to reach a whopping 170 million gamblers. The state of New Jersey is following close behind with its governor signing an amended bill proposing the same legalization in the coming weeks.
While this mostly pertains to online casino-like games, who knows if it won’t spill over into eSports eventually? Maybe one day gamers can bet on their own gaming prowess.
