A Strategy Reborn - Square Enix CEO discusses company's changing philosphy.
In a letter released to the company's community blog, US/EU CEO Phil Rodgers discussed Square Enix's future plans for releasing games, admitting that they will be sharing most of its focus away from major consoles to mobile devices and other handheld devices for the time being.
Recently, newly appointed CEO of Square Enix's American and European divisions, Phil Rodgers released a letter on the company's website directed at its customers. In said letter, he openly admits that company reps haven't been doing a good job at explaining their strategy to the fans, apologizing for making them frustrated.
Square all you need to do is look at your succeeding titles, they were mostly all 2D and final fantasy 7 was in between same for 8 and 9 once you jumped full 3D you ran into trouble- that's where it started, I miss the saga frontiers, the final fantasy tactics on consoles not damn hand devices, the old 2D market you guys built up to be the monster of the rpg legacy but you killed it, you wanna fix your company look at some games that you killed off or have stopped making, people want another ogre battle, people want another saga frontier and another final fantasy 7 remake but you turn your back you say you care about what fans want but you lie cause if you did you would be jumping to please them and this is why you are going bankrupt.
I have a Release Strategy for Square; Make games that people actually want to play. I'm sure the demand for Final Fantasy on a smartphone is SO HIGH right now -__-
I don'r mind some Vita/3DS entries in their main series, but no more mobile garbage. They had their shot, and they blew it.
i hope that they dont say that KH3 will sell 10 million copies cause that be crazy
Screw that....They didn't apologize for Dungeon Siege III
At least they're acknowledging and accepting some of the criticism they've gotten from groups of people lately, which is already much better than some other companies.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to Kingdom Hearts III and possibly Final Fantasy XV!
The main thing I'm holding out for (that in my eyes is realistic) is an announcement that FFXV is coming to the PC as well as the consoles, that'd make me satisfied enough with Square to where I won't start complaining about whatever practices they decide to pursue.
If I wanted to be unrealistic, a 3DS remake of either Chrono Trigger or FFVI would be neato.
Well it is nice that they are openly admitting that they been shitting the bed lately and they are gonna try fix it. I appreciate it. They better stay lively company. I want another Deus Ex game. I am looking forward to the new Thief game. And whatever they are doing with Final Fantasy XV, looking forward to Lightning Returns, yeah. They know drastic changes are in order and fast. Its a good thing. Kinda funny since they have been the talk lately and they finally called attention to it. Yeah, they better start delivering better games.
My problem with this is pretty much their main focus "we devote most of our time and effort into developing new and rich gameplay experiences, worlds and characters". This quote irks me because they'll have something that's really good or maybe needs a small tweak then totally botch the whole thing. I love seeing brand new things in games but it's best not to make the whole game that way. If you slowly implement the ideas, it gives time for us to decide if it was a good or bad decision without judging the game as a whole (EX: FFXIII). I don't know how to feel about this. I'm glad they're being open with us but I'm still skeptical, which is reasonable because of their recent situation. Like always, I will hope the best for the future.
It's good to see an acknowledgement of mistakes made, and openly admitting that ATB was a flop is a good decision. Square do need to make changes, but at least they'll admit it.
HD remake of Chrono Trigger, bring Dragon Quest VII remake and X to America. Make it happen.
... Just get Bravely Default to the states, please.
Forget FF7, what we need is an HD remake of FF6. Fully re-recorded, voiced, everything. The Works™.
He mentioned quality but he didn't mention anything about reigning in development costs, arguably the biggest thing killing them right now. You can make KH3 a worthy addition to the franchise but it won't mean a thing if you have to ship 10 million copies to make money off of it.
*Fixed. Must have had Fish on the brain at the time after all. ^__^"
He must have gotten names mixed up with the whole Phil fish debacle being big now.
So is his name Phil Fisher or Phil Rogers? Because you said one and your source says the other.
