Tekken X Street Fighter expecting a next gen-platform release

3/20/13 1:05pm

When Capcom first announced Street Fighter X Tekken it was expected that Namco would eventually take the cross title in their own direction with the Tekken style. Since then little information has been made public about the Tekken X Street Fighter project.

Harada, game director/producer of the Tekken series, tweeted this morning stating that they are "changing & considering platform strategy" and because of this Namco has yet to release much about the game.

"I said under development few days ago. We are changing & considering platform strategy. That's why we don't say anything. ThxRT@KOAlliance"

Let us know what are you think about cross games as well as Namco's move to next-gen and how might Tekken handle Street Fighter's Projectile heavy cast in the comments.

I can totally see this never being released.

The article doesn't clearly indicated a next-gen only release. There still is a chance for it to be a cross-gen release, much in the way that Watch_Dogs and Ass. Creed IV are.

I have some curiosity but overall I'm not expecting much from this game. I can't imagine that a Tekken style game engine will be able to capture the essence of Street Fighter but who knows.

Conversely, I thought SF x T did a good job with the Tekken characters. It just didn't do good with the oversized stages, or the on disk DLC, or console exclusives or...

The Tekken game play style has to change to compensate for the Street Fighter characters somehow. I'm really interested in seeing how they accomplish the integration .

I agree with you on SF x T as far as characters go. They really dropped the ball on how they handled the extra content. I'm glad I got the game used...but I still feel like I have half a game with a large portion of the character select screen void. :/

No it doesn't. Jinpachi can shoot fireballs and Kazuya can do a spinning kick so both of those are covered for. They also do uppercuts and in air projectile attacks so getting the SF characters in isn't difficult really or require most modifying of the gameplay.

True, it's possible for it to stay the same. I was making an assumption based on past crossover games made by Capcom, because crossovers aren't exactly like the standard fighting game. There's usually something different to change the game up. Namco may just keep Tekken the same and add Street Fighter characters without adding anything drastically different to the game play style. But are they going to add Super Gauges? Will they incorporate their Tag game play to the crossover? There's just so much to speculate about until they actually show some of the game play. I'm getting hyped just thinking about it.

It's going to take some time to get Tekken X Street Fighter done. Building the Street Fighter characters and animations from scratch is going to take a while. I'm really looking forward to seeing some gameplay when it's ready.

I'm guessing that it'll play somewhat similarly to the DBZ Budokai games, since you can sidestep projectile attacks.
