Today's Takeaway - 11/01
So this whole Gears of War thing has resolved itself pretty quickly, but I noticed something. A lot of sites have reported that the file was only 1.42 mb. So it isn't actually DLC, as much as it is an unlock code for content that was already on the disc. Does this bother anyone still?
It is a good amount of content for $10, but I wonder what kind of technical limitations they could have experienced if all the content was already on disc... It is a pretty strange scenario to say the least. Do I know for sure it was an unlock code? No. Considering that the DLC is comprised of three new characters skins, three new maps, two weapon skins, new Achievements, and fortification upgrades; how could it not be?

So... how many people still think the "Season Pass" is worth it?

As a game designer who uses a lot of UDK, I have to say it - it can't be DLC. 1.42 mb is impossible to be DLC with the unreal engine.

Well at least dlc that's free for everybody is coming out on thanksgiving so there.

Some ps3 games have small file size dlc because it downloads as part of the games regular patches. But seriously in gears of wars case if it is true they just released on disk dlc thats just weak on there part.

As an UE3 developer, i must say it could be it if no textures, sounds or maps (the big stuff) were added to the modification. If all assets used in the DLC are already in the game it's pretty much it, as script code and other assets are really small.
edit: New maps are there.... ohh fuck it :p

I bought a season pass for dlc. Not unlocks for stuff already on the disc.
Isnt that false advertising? DownLoadableContent. The content isnt downloadable its already fucking there. This must be illegal or something.

I agree with how crappy this is.

They know they can get away with it, even though we (those who see the gaming market for what it is) are clearly against it, we are only a small percentage compared to the overall gaming market that will buy a game based on the title and buy its DLC without another thought. I absolutely dispise it as much as anyone else here, but as long as that consumer base is still around, companies will still use this dirty sales tactic and will continue to exploit their consumer base until it goes to far for them.

Is it me or are video games costing us more money than they did back in the days of the NES?
