Top 10 Most Outrageous Game Moments
Here it is folks. This is that funny list I said I was going to do. Only I decided to include WTF and just plain ridiculous moments also. I am allowing myself to pick computer games for this list also. I doesn't have to be a moment either, it can be the whole game or level. Here's the criteria I set for myself.
- One game per franchise.
- It had to have gotten an initial reaction out of me.
- Going on 1st impressions (as in the first time I saw the scene).
Now on with the countdown! Also please remember that this is my opinion and there maybe a few spoilers.
10. Fake Princess
from Super Mario Brothers (NES)
I was 8 the first time I played this game and the first time I saw toad, I was like, "Where's the princess?" Basically this was the first WTF moment in video games, at least for me it was. This cop-out started it all. I was not a happy camper at the time, but looking back on it, it is a bit amusing. However, because it was more annoying than funny, that's why it's at the bottom. The ones higher up on the list are a combination of humour and ridiculousness.
9. No Rings + Final Boss= Oh Crap!
from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Sega Genesis)
When I first saw this stage and I didn't have any coins, I was like "Oh crap!" The metal sonic wasn't that hard, but that last boss for me was nuts! You had to be careful in jumping or you'd get hit by those spikes on the arms there. I have to tell you that this footage here makes beating this guy so easy, but mark my words, it was HARD!!! You better have plenty of lives too. Because you don't have room for error, that's why it's a bit higher. However, the annoyance level is still high, so that's why it's still low on the list.
8. Super Ghouls n' Ghosts False Ending
from Super Ghouls n' Ghost (Super NES)
I have never played this game, but I've seen footage of it, and I agree with most that this is one of the hardest games of all time. First time you play through it, you feel relieved, thinking you have beaten the game. But oh no, you've only gotten halfway through it! This is a huge shock. You have to go through the game AGAIN!!! That's a big f--k up if you ask me. Also, at one point, you might be running around with nothing but boxers. That's pretty hillarious. So because Arthur is almost naked and the huge shock (as seen above), that's why it's still higher than the last too. However, the humour factor goes up from here.
7. Diddy Kong Appeals to Falco
from Super Smash Brothers Brawl (Nintendo Wii)
Anytime you got one of Rare's characters involved, you know it's going to be funny hehe. This scene is short and sweet, but it's so funny in my opinion. I find this part funnier with Falco instead of Fox because Falco (to me) has a more 'serious' attitude and the fact that he doesn't want to help Diddy cracks me up. However, because it is a short scene, that's why it's low. Still, for being light-hearted, that's why it's higher than the others.
6. Prince Enrique Gets Air sick
from Skies of Arcadia (Sega Dreamcast)
(Watch the first 55 secounds for the scene)
Prince Enrique is a pretty interesting character. Now while I don't think he's the funniest character in the game, the things that happen to him at times are hilarious and this is the best one in my opinion for I didn't see this coming since Enrique appears to be gallant and poised. Seeing him like this the first time was a big surprise for me and him trying to be in good spirits about it really cracks me up even more. He does get air sick one more time and that's it, but his airsickness is mentioned several more times after this. I have to say though, picking out a moment from this game was hard.
5. Link is Launched into Forsaken Fortress
from The Legend of Zelda: WindWaker (Nintendo Gamecube)
(Watch from 2:00 to 3:15)
If any of ya'll seen my fav Zelda moments, than you might have figured this was going to end up on this list. When I first saw this fortress, I was very nervous thinking, "I have to get into that place?" And then when Tetra winks, I was like, "This isn't good." But I never expected for Link to be put in a barrel and launched from the ship. It was a big shock, and added to the fact that I lost my sword, it was damn inconveniet. It borderlined annoying, but the fact that that launch was so hilarious and surprising, it didn't annoy me too much. Because of the shock value, that's why it was higher than the last one. From here on out though, the scenes get funnier and more crazy hehe.
4. Final Boss Battle Ending
from Donkey Kong 64 (Nintendo 64)
(Watch 7:15 to end)
This is the funniest scene on this list. The reason why it's not higher is because the last 3 combine humour, wtfness, and rediculousness. Anyway, here's another one of Rare's games and the hit this scene out of the park. It is a fitting end to K. Rool. I have to tell you, I can not stop laughing the whole time. Even the secret endings are funny, but this ending takes the cake.
3. Rhyme-a-Rooey
from Davidson Kid Phonics (Computer)
I was about 15 when this game came out. At the time though my youngest brother was entering pre-K and my mom bought a few educational kid computer games. Davidson Kid Phonics was one them to help him start reading. I had to help him become familiar with it. Anyway, when I saw this sing-a-long, I was flabbergasted becauce of the crazy animated character, along with those crazy lyrics and melody. This was suppose to be a young kid game folks! That's why it was a huge shock to me. On it's own, it's pretty funny, but would you want a toddler hearing this song? Honestly I'd be on the fence lol. I don't think this song will help someone know how to read lol. Still it's very entertaining and catchy as hell.
2. The Hut of Trials in Ninan Village
from Grandia II (Sega Dreamcast)
(Watch first video first from 6:00 to ending. 2nd Video- Beginning to 2:25)
Lol, this is probably the most anti-climatic scene I have ever seen. Now, this way past the 1/2 point and I figured this 'task' was going to be very hard because I just have 2 chars. The villagers tell you just how 'dangerous' this task is and I am getting more nervous by the mintute. And when there's no music playing, I was like "Oh crap." Falling the first time was a big shock and funny. But when you find out what the 'task' is, it's one of the biggest WTF moments in gaming in my opinion. Even Ryudo is shocked lol. I was thoroughly confused at this point and when you find out that the green stuff was your main job, well, that just made me laugh like crazy. The irony is, the payoff is one of the most needed items in the game, The Nut of Light (which you should use only at the end of the game). The reason why it's only #2 is because #1 takes the shock and funny factor and takes it out of the ball park so far, it left me speechless.
Before we get to that though, here are a few Honorable Mentions.
HM1. Mortal Kombat Fatalities
from Mortal Kombat (Arcade)
First HM goes to the Mortal Kombat fatalities of the first game. I was a kid when I first saw this game. Now I never played this game, but I use to watch others play it on the arcade. This game in general was more gross to me than surprising. At that age, I had already see a few death scenes from movies and always had an active imagination. At the time, I didn't realize how big of an impact this game would make on the gaming industry, and I didn't find out until years later. So because it wasn't a big shock to me, that's why didn't make the list, but I think it's still worth mentioning because of its legacy.
HM2. Ilia Lectures Link and the Mayor
from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Nintendo Gamecube/Wii)
(watch 3:50 to 5:28)
At the time when I was creating my fav Zelda moments, I totally forgot this scene (or else I would have placed it on the list because it is very funny). Because of my 1 game per franchise rule though, that's why this isn't on the list. What makes this scene funny is the fact that normally Link is a straightlace person and he's the last person I would think would get a lecture. And the fact that Ilia scolds her father too is hilarious. The gaped mouths in the end make it even funnier.
Now finally, here's #1!!!
1. Great Mighty Poo Boss Fight
from Conker's Bad Fur Day (Nintendo 64)
When I first heard of this boss, I honestly didn't believe it. And when I did see that such a boss did exist, I was lost for words. FIGHTING POOP!!! That is way too over the top, even for Rare! The fact that it sings opera throughout the boss fight only adds to the humour. Some of the lyrics are just too outrageous! Now, I haven't played the game, but still for the sheer ridiculousness and hilarity of this scene, that's why it's #1 in my book.

There certainly are a lot of silly and ridiculous moments in gaming. Recently I'd say it's from the many glitches that the Game Grumps find in Sonic '06.
Flapperdoodle
I will say this is definitely a very original list. Props.

That last stage in Sonic 2 took me years to beat. I didn't really have a lot patience because this was my first game I played and I was 3 years old.
Zodia195
Lol, hey it took me almost 20 years to beat it.

I agree with you on the whole Sonic 2 final boss. Especially since you have to fight Metal Sonic prototype first. But "When I first saw this stage and I didn't have any coins" Sorry but it's a peeve of mine when people put those two together. They are rings, not coins. Small thing that irritates me but solid topic.
Zodia195
OMG! I am sorry I met to type rings! I even wrote it down that way originally.
Prowler64
totally agree with everything you just said.

The Wind Waker one is escpailly strange.
Noble Team 1
I'm liking this and definitely different than what I would pick for my favorite outrageous moments, so nicely done.
