The types of fanboy I hate REDONE

6/19/12 8:56pm
tl;dr

I rant in front of a brick wall for an hour and a half... Again!

So here I am again. Redoing a blog I had already done. I couldn't just stop and let it be. Mostly because of how ashamed I am of the hissy fit I trew after that debacle. So now here is the blog I promised.

Edit: Because of a copy paste error I was missing the 4th entry but now I put it up.

I had started by saying that it happens at one point, sometimes you're just to ashamed too admit you're part of a group because of some individual's behavior. Admitting it would lead to punishment, look, it's grade school all over again! Fanboys, not fans mind you, fanboys. They're foulmouthed, extremly vocal, biast, double based and sometimes just inaccurate. Making you doubt they're actual fans... Like the aforementionned zealous behavior didn't happen. This is something that was recently tackled on extra creditz, ruffians ruining it all for the others. Well enough chit chat let's dive right in, starting with the most popular.

Number 1: Sonic fanboys

Where to start? We're talking about the fanbase who bitches and moans about his eyes supposedly ''being the wrong color'' and his shoes having belt buckle and questionning as to why is there a cloud of dust behind him when he runs. First off, is eyes aren't the ''wrong color''. At the change of the century it's pretty obvious they executed some design change, same goes for the rest. Ironically, no one complains about Tails and Knuckles having different designs. It's not like they're bad characters, if anything they're Sonic but slower and with an extra ability. If you had actually played the first games and not just the 3D ones like some people you would get that. Fanboys don't care though. No one complains about Mario having a blue and red outfit instead of the original rust/red and brown one. Let it be said that I understand why someone could have complaints about a character design, it's normal we all have our tastes but it doesn't stop here. They actually condemn an entire entry just for small design choices.

Recently, I was reminded by a certain playtrough of another sour spot on Sonic's past. Remember the ala... I mean remember when 4kids wanted the voice actors to be the same in the anime and the games? Well everyone was most displeased about that, even me. The 4kids actors are actually not that bad but has 4kids ever heard of work ethics... No nevermind. So fanboys spent years whining about the actor, then they change them again for decent voice ones and still complain... I swear some people are never satisfied. I understand having high standards is a thing but there's a point where you must a least be midly satisfied... On to number 2 then.

Number 2: Final Fantasy fanboys

Let's make this clear, the main problem with that fanbase is that they can't stand to have other people be happy. If not they woudn't have issy fits each time Final Fantasy is announced for a console that is not playstation. And again, there could be something rational about this. When a game goes multiplatform the effort is split. Especially if it's made by the same developper. But in any case, wether there's another studio or not of the versions will end up with at least slight variations and not in a good way sometimes. But of course that's not the matter. The reason behind such reasoning is aggresive elitism, according to them Final Fantasy belongs on a Sony system. First off, Final Fantasy had it's 6 first games on Nintendo system, it's not fanboism, just a fact, secondly who cares?! Some of them complain about the Xbox version of FF13 having many disk even though they're obviously going to buy the PS3 and has we know, fanboys have no empathy or common sense. If anything they're like the Grinch, except the fact that the Grinch learns. Final Fantasy 7 is the first game you played, not the game of the franchise.

It's also now pretty clear that they would accept anything Square makes, so at this point taste is no argument they just swallow everything endlessly... Like Kirby. If you're tired of having angsty winny metro sexual jonas brothers pose as main protagonist in your favorite jrpg and wonder why that's not changing well, they're to blame. Let's face it, Final Fantasy mutated into what 99.9% of animes are today. Convoluted, vapid, self rightoeus, empty mess more concentrated on being pretty then good (well some animes don't even botherhaving a decent frame numbers). While we're at it I know gameplay is the most important thing but like some people have shared with me recently, good graphics do not always hurt. Vapid overlong cutscenes do though.

Number 3: Metal Gear fanboys

That one will be a bit more specific and will serve as foreshadowing for my next blog. Here's the thing, you're probably going to want to cut my head and put it on a stick, (wich will be hard hiding behind your keyboards and no! It's not a challenge!) but although I aknowledge Metal Gear Solid 3 as having better mechanics in general, I prefer Metal Gear solid 2. I like the story in 3 (as crazy as it is) and the setting is not to bad but I'm more engrossed by the story in 2 and I can actually see 5 feet in front of me. Wich is not saying much because that's just two feet more then in MGS3. Now I can understand that some people genuinly don't like Raiden but hating the game not because of Raiden but because Raiden isn't Snake well that's just stupid... Give it a chance. Oh there's that and the fact that some people call Raiden emo in 2 but find no problem whatsoever with him in 4. Really?! Gravity defying emo space ninja capable of plowing through a fucking Metal Gear like butter is okay but solider with post traumatic stress is bad. Like Other M bad? God forbid Snake would also share that trait, oh wait?!
Number 4:Need For Speed fanboys

Here's a fanbase I never thought I'd tackle and by fanbase I mean kid who played Need For Speed Most Wanted when he was 12 and thinks it's the best in the franchise, even if that person didn't play the other titles. You know what else, I've caught wind of people saying, when comparing it to Hot Pursuit, that MW is supposedly ''more true to the series''. You mean the game based in city streets is more true to a highway based game that an highway based game is? Again, yes opinions but you can't say that objectively. By the way did you notice how every racer now looks more and more like Burnout? Here's the tihng about the gaming industry nowadays, if it's not a demolition type racer, it's a shooter or a pretencious platform game trying to hard to look like Limbo.

Well, here's another franchise that would have not made the list not long ago. Like all the other franchises on this list except maybe, Need for Speed, (I'm more casual about it) I like Devil May Cry. So much so, I even own games of it. No but all jokes aside I recently bought the special edition for PS2 (easier my ass, barely). One of my only few gripes.

Number 5: Devil May Cry fans

It was either that or rule 63 Dante

Well, here's another franchise that would have not made the list not long ago. Like all the other franchises on this list except maybe, Need For Speed, (I'm more casual about it) I ike Devil May Cry. So much so, I even own games of it. No but all jokes aside I recently bought the special edition for PS2 (easier my ass, barely). One of my only few gripes with it is the fact that it's a greatist hits version. Wich totally doesn't go right with the other jet black covers. But back on track, recently people were offensed by the new look of Dante. Non DMC fans might not see anything wrong but as winny as some may be there are some problems with the new design. Why does he look like an emo Tameem Antoniades? Why does he sport a british flag? What's with that and new character designs, the same thing happened to Cole from Infamous. Well now the design has changed but not as much as it should. So you see the hair isn't the real problem, even though it should be blonde. I'm no geneticist but his mother had blonde hair, Sparda white, so why brown? Is it recessive or AH! Nevermind. But like we learned today with this blog, or Extra Creditz for that matter, a complaint stops being legitimate when it turns to pure anger, it gets you nowhere.

Well, I hope this blog was somewhat entertaining and not to contrived, I'm always open to critism and not just mindless bitching. For now, here's a nonsical dream that I had that has nothing to do with anything. Chad was cosplaying as a knife wielding maniac and Lauren was a witch who controlled time, except the fact that it was nothing as contrived as Final Fantasy 8. She used it to cause a rat infestation, rats taken from the past trown into the future to cause havok in a museum?... Well it makes more sense then FF8.

When I first saw metal gear fanboys I thought, "I'm going to kill this kid!" but, as I once I read it I couldn't agree with you more. Now, I personally liked the first one over them all, but I agree with everything else.

PS: they fixed the camera angle in the various remakes of MGS3

Oh don't worry, I'm not just some stupid kid. I'm also a stupid adult. And I'm aware of the many camera angle revisions, I own MGS3 twice. I'm happy they did that, the isometric angle was nice for MGS 1 and 2 (although it's lessened, you're able to see more) but only because the ennemies were far more stupid. Here I need everything in my power to ensure good vision and being in a forest doesn't help. That's one of the most important thing in a sneaking game, freedom of vision and movement. Speaking of wich I started playing Tenchu. Shadow assassins is nice but I feel a bit like a tank, I taught I was playing a sneaking game not a survival horror.

multiple questions; first of all, WTF is tenchu? 2, what platform is it on? 3, WTF is shadow assassins? 4, see 2. And 5 ( it's not a question but you're a big boy, you can handle it): i recommend assassin's creed if you havn't already played it, but only one and two, because you will be better off that way, trust me.

Answers:

1- Tenchu is a slealth game where you play the masters of stealth, ninjas.

2- It first started on PS1 then moved on to PS2 then Xbox 360 and Wii. I'd recommend the first two on playstation and Wrath of Heaven mostly if you're going to start anywhere.

3- Shadow Assassins is one of the installments, it's on Wii. There I also answered 4.

5- I know, it's the general consencus with Assassin's Creed. I knew they completely lost it when they announced a title per year à la Call of Duty.

Great blog! I agree on most of the points you bring up.

I'd also like to bring up something: Many people really don't seem to adress or understand; the difference between a fan and a fanboy. A Fan is a person who likes something from a specific medium, but is willing to accept change in said medium and other people who no not like what he likes. A Fanboy is the complete opposite in some ways. A fanboy still likes this piece of entertainment from the same medium of as the Fan. However, it gets differnent here. Some fanboys hate any type of change that they are not used to. They wil be loud and very vocal about their distaste for it, even if the change is for the better. Also, other fanboys will accept any change and still love the said franchise, even if it is bad or detrimental. They would also get upset at other fans/fanboys who disagree with them; resulting in massive butthurt.

Fanboys are also not willing to accept the opinions of others. They will usually insult the person disagreeing with their stance and deny any of their reasoning, even if it's good reasoning. Then they will resort to ad Hominem, personal attacks or attacks that have nothing to do with the disscusion at hand. The usual homophobic slander, insulting your sexuality, and jokes about your mother and basement will also be thrown in.

So yeah, I apologize for the long comment. I just had to get that out there.

Don't worry about the lenght of the comment, it's the kind of thing I like to see. I'm not the only one to realise those things. By the way, you forgot a type of fanboy, it's more or less the combination of the first two. Those who deny any change but when the game comes out, they'll by it anyway and act like it's the best thing possible. Wether it's bad or not.

Pretty enteartaining blog i must say :) But like most people when you make these kinds of blogs the whole"grr i`m mad"thing dosn`t really work all the time. But nice blog nonetheless. Btw Number 4?

Well i wasn't going for the nerd rage anyway. About number 4, I had problems getting out this blog. For some reason the site gave me an error, so I copy pasted my blog into a new window and I was able to get it out but it's probably there that it got lost.

You would have had a lot more credibility with this line of thought if the first FF to go to the 360 hadn't been unredeemably awful in almost every way.

Smoofy

June 20, 2012 - 2:52pm

Well yes indeed. It sucked 7 different kind of balls but I should have precised that some hated it even before hitting shelves But Multi platform or not, I think the game would have ended up the same, although I wasn't following it as long as others (those waiting for it since 2006) but I did do research. From the reasulting search I can say it was doomed to fail, they didn't want to make a FF game but a FF movie. A pretty one at that but shallow.
