Ubisoft to offer an exclusive Wii U demo to make up for the Rayman Legends delay
Yesterday, the folks at Ubisoft revealed on the publisher’s Facebook page that they have been reading through the fan feedback over the recent delay of Rayman Legends (which couldn’t have been very pleasant). They also took the opportunity to apologize for the delay and as a token of said apology, they are planning to release a new Legends demo exclusively on the Wii U eShop.
Yeah, this might seem like a tease to Wii U owners...like you said. At least it's something.
You know what I would have done as a developer I would have released the finished product and then waited till E3 and then announce (at my own conference no less) that the game is going multiplatform there everyone is happy. Ok maybe not but it would have been a lot better than to delay the game till September.
Way to twist the knife, Ubisoft...
that doesn't really make a difference since everyone else already played a demo of that game, you know, rayman origins?
i didn't like the original all that much and the demo hasn't changed my mind either. It's weird though cause i simply adore sidescrollers
Nintendo fans are mad because its ready to be played, and they are not releasing it.
I like pie
Did they say when this demo will go up? Cuz ive already played the current one to death.
This is off topic, but you might want to change your avatar picture. It's kind of age-inappropriate and you could get into some trouble with the admins. Just a heads up.
Oh sorry, didn't see your response to all the responses. Yeah just ignore my comment as everyone else said the reason the majority of fans are pissed. ^^'
The fans aren't angry about it being multiplatform. At least I'm not cos, as you said, more platforms is a good thing as more people will play a great game. What they are angry about (including me) is if the game was 3 weeks from release, it would have to be 99% complete. You have to take into account that they need time to get the game rated, printed, and shipped to stores, so lets say 2 weeks to get all that done. If that's the case, then they are taking an essentially finished game and making ALL gamers wait another 6 months. Keep in mind, that they basically have to redesign half the game to make it work for ps3 and xbox 360 (no gamepad), so that's where all the development time in the next 6 months is going. It's not going to be spent improving the Wii U version or adding more content. I dunno if you like bioshock, but imagine it's 3 weeks from release, and then 2K says "Oh, we're gonna release it on wii u, so even thought the ps3/xbox/pc varsions are pretty much finished, we're gonna make everyone wait." Everyone would go ape shit.
This is NOT the way to make up to Wii U owners as this is more of a slap in the face to them as well as the developer as Ubisoft is making them go through more development hell! I'm sorry, Ubisoft. What you are doing is getting completely out of hand here. Release the Wii U game since it was already completed, and release the newer features as DLC so that way the PS3 and 360 gamers can have the whole thing when it launches. Quit alienating us on this, even further!
The number of ways this post fails is disturbing and makes me weep for humanity.
Early Rayman got its start on the PS1, a game system that was embracing companies jumping ship over a blood feud they all had with Nintendo at the time. Today, the Playstation brand has degenerated into a realism-centered haven for scruffy-unshaven-near-caucasion protagonists with generic chip-on-their-shoulder attitudes and other nondescript generic avatars in washed-out beige-brown shoot-em-up virtual paintball worlds. The culture in gaming has changed and, for Sony, it was for the worse. At least Microsoft and Steam help fuel the indy boom and Nintendo is a playground for developers to try new things or stick with what brought them to the dance. Say what you will, there's no real home for Rayman on Sony systems anymore when games like LittleBigPlanet, 3D Dot Game Heroes, and Mod Nation Racing get the shaft for games like Uncharted and the countless other run-and-guns the system hosts. Shoot, LBP was a huge sales disappointment and only was able to squeak out five million copies sold because they eventually became standard in bundles for the PS3. The culture of Sony two generations ago shows success for Rayman. Today, though? If you're not a sports sim, a beige-brown FPS, or something grounded in uber-realism, you're not going to sell on the PS3 no matter how badly fans claim they want that title. The top 50 games sold lifetime for the PS3 only show two titles that'd suggest Rayman Legends would have success, the other being Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction... at #48. Say what you will about the install base of the PS3, but if only a fistfull of them are interested in your game, is it really worth the port?
For argument's sake, I also looked up the 360 lifetime sales. Their Top 50 that has similar legacy-driven games to Rayman Legends? Starting at /#35/, Lego Indiana Jones (3.2m), Lego Batman (2.9m), Kung Fu Panda (3m), and Sega Superstars Tennis (2.85m).
Who exactly is Ubisoft selling to on these "larger install bases," again?
And as others have stated here, Rayman was never exclusive to Sony. It was on Nintendo handhelds, the N64, and the Dreamcast. But exclusivity is the minimal issue here, isn't it? The issue is that a game, three weeks away from release, by all intents and purposes is ready to go come shipping date, is being pushed back to sit on the shelf and collect dust, putting the long nights the developers went through to make this game in time all for naught. Haven't you read /this/ article?
The point about gamers wanting or not wanting a Wii U over one game is completely irrelevant to both my post and this situation. The fact is that this game was touted for MONTHS as a launch-window exclusive got a lot of fans excited. It was something to be happy you /did/ buy a Wii U for. The push back when the game is more-or-less completed, see the articles that have come out, is nothing more than a punch in the nethers from a company that's chasing something that they can't reach on those two platforms because the gamers there don't want something like Rayman. Fans on the Wii U, however, are in love with whimsical legacy-driven masterpieces. The threshold for success is much greater on Nintendo platforms for titles like Rayman. Their only competition is Nintendo's first parties, which Rayman Legends would have only had to compete with two: Mario and NintendoLand.
How about we completely ignore the fact just how moronic you sound when you completely misquote my own quote? I said I wanted the game to do WELL on the Wii U! Didn't you read my post or are you here trolling for the sake of trolling? Congratulations, good sir, you've accomplished so much today.
The dev team wasn't angry about this going multiplatform? Maybe not at the prospect of potentially reaching a wider audience, but for learning that the news meant that their six months of being socially exiled from their loved ones didn't have to happen now? Guess what? They aren't happy about that! You think they took the news with jubilation? No. The only ones happy are the PS360 owners who get the game too. But honestly? That probably was going to happen eventually, so what do they have to be throwing their streamers about?
I'm not arguing what the developers were angry about. But that's not the biggest issue here. Again, a Wii U exclusive that was to be released under three weeks from today in a period where a new game is welcome in many libraries is getting pushed back just because it's going multi-platform, especially after the game is all but complete /today/. Seven months of waiting on a title that's completed is infuriating, and if you'd stop celebrating that your system is getting a game you wanted, you'd start to understand. Being a player of video games shouldn't mean only thinking of yourself, even if you're one of the few benefiting.
Do yourself a favor. It's a good idea and you'll benefit more in your daily life by doing this: Think!
They were listening so intensely that they didn't comprehend a damned complaint from anyone. I will take all they want to give me for free, so yay demo 2... but the damage is done. Potential buyer gone! Fire your PR team Ubisoft, they are FAIL
Well it is better than nothing, but it's not going to dramatically remove current tension.
Bullshit! a demo does not make up for nothing the game is ready for release on the wii u. just release it and then put it on the other consoles.
OOOOO wauw Ubisoft !!! We get to play a demo of a game we know is practically ready to ship and hold us over for the unnecessary wait of half a year ? Yea that will solve everything !
..... Seriously Ubisoft, grow a freaking brain. Release the Wii U version. There is no problem in it being multi platform, the problem is that you are screwing everybody in the pooch for god knows what reason.
I was reading the comments saying "No one buy Xbox 360 and PS3 versions! Ubisoft must burn in hell!" and I made a mistake in thinking that that was the reason why people were angry. I completely understand. The Wii U version should be released far before September.
To be fair the PS3 one from what I have heard sucked as much if not more. I blame SEGA for that one.
