Ubisoft responds to PETA's attack over Whaling in the next Assassin's Creed

3/7/13 8:00pm

Yesterday (or a few fours ago since we got the news today) PETA sent negative comments toward Ubisoft for having the ability to hunt Whales AKA Whaling in Assassin Creed 4: Black Flag.  Ubisoft's Stone Chin responded back in a statement to company "Polygon"

"History is our playground in Assassin's Creed... "Assassin Creed 4: Black Flag" is a work of fiction that depicts the real events during the golden era of pirates. We do not condone illegal whaling, just as we don't condone a pirate lifestyle of poor hygiene, plundering, hijacking ships, and over-the legal-limit drunken debauchery."

Polygon also asks Matt Bruce, of PETA's International Grassroots Campaigns about recent video games that includes hunting like Far Cry 3, Assassin Creed 3, & just release Tomb Raider. He reiterated PETA's Stance for better ways depict animals in video games and said...

"We would obviously rather not see people promoting the hurting and killing of any animals."

This is obviously another stunt from PETA to get attention. They targeted Pokemon, Mario, and Cooking Mama for abusing & killing of animals but turns out that they needed something to market against for profit. However they seem passionate about getting rid of Whaling in AC4 from their nasty comments toward Ubisoft. But even though Whaling and hunting for any animal is wrong, Its apart of our history & the Assassin Creed's franchise always play in historic events of selective eras in the games. Your thoughts?

The more people make fun of PETA the more crap they deserve. PETA sucks. They're just an extremely vocal minority that actually does fuck all to save animals.

I liken PETA to the Brotherhood of Nod; overzealous, fanatical, and aimlessly lashing out without any real goal. No real insight to what they're doing other than to spread anarchy and chaos amongst the rational.

I only have two questions: who the hell is their Kane, and can we take him/her out without someone jumping up to fill in the gap like some hydra?

"But even though Whaling and hunting for any animal is wrong, Its apart of our history & the Assassin Creed's franchise always play in historic events of selective eras in the games." Is hunting for any animal "wrong?" It's interesting to see what people perceive to be "right" or "wrong."

While whaling is wrong in today's terms, back then it was perfectly fine. Whatever happened happened, and denying it keeps us from learning from the past.

I tell you what, PETA has just exhausted any sympathy I had for them years ago. So as far as I'm concerned, nuke the damn whales!
