Ubisoft reveals some details about the microtransaction system for Assassin’s Creed III

10/30/12 1:00pm

Ubisoft recently revealed the micro-transaction system Assassin's Creed III will have for its online multiplayer modes with prices and bundles announced.

The system appears to revolve around Eruditos as the in-game currency which is converted from real money and used to buy in-game items solely for online multiplayer.

Ubisoft also revealed a small catch with these bundles as these packs only be available to buy within the game itself and can not be purchased elsewhere like on PSN or XBLA.

Bundles revealed:

  • Assassin’s Creed III UPlay Passport – ($9.99)
  • Assassin’s Creed III 155 Erudito Pack – ($4.99)
  • Assassin’s Creed III 20 Erudito Pack – ($0.99)
  • Assassin’s Creed III 380 Erudito Pack – ($9.99)
  • Assassin’s Creed III 50 Erudito Pack – ($1.99)
  • Assassin’s Creed III 925 Erudito Pack – ($19.99)

These packs will not be covered by the game's Season Pass since this DLC set is being treated differently than the storyline-related DLC packs the Pass will cover. Thoughts on this g1s?

Small update from Ubisoft who said all the in-game items can be earned without having to spend real cash although it just takes a lot longer to unlock than just spending for the packs.

I hope the irony of the use of microtransactions in a game set around the American Revolutionary War isn't lost on any of us...

Ug... The moment I saw this in ME3 I knew it wouldn't end there, Frankly.. This mentality scares the crap out of me. Yes now it no big deal you can still get it by in game means.. but there will be a title that will push to see what they can get away with.

I mean this kind of stuff is OK for FtP games, But when it start to show up in games I have to buy already.. I dunno, This seems different then "dlc" and something that should not be passed as “acceptable”. But I guess will see where it takes us.

I'd probably pass if the multiplayer alone won't be that interesting.
