Ubisoft unhappy with both Rayman Legends and Splinter Cell Blacklist sales numbers
Besides the prior announcement about both Watch Dogs and The Crew being delayed, Ubisoft also revealed during Tuesday's conference call that both Rayman Legends and Splinter Cell: Blacklist sold below their expectations. Ubisoft did not reveal the overall sales numbers nor platform splits for both games though.
In regards to Splinter Cell: Blacklist, speculated numbers from the NPD hinted at around 300,000 copies sold combined during its first month in the US. The Xbox 360 version was hinted to have the sold the most and the Wii U version the least. The Wii U version was hinted to have sold between 5,000 to 10,000 copies.
In regards to Rayman Legends, the decision to delay the game and make it multi-platform hoping for stronger sales has not paid off for Ubisoft. They did confirm the Wii U version sold the most but the overall combined sales were lower than Ubisoft had expected.
Between the delays and poor sales revelations, the company announced they have lowered their financial targets for this fiscal year by around €450 million.
we warned you, ubisoft, that would be a stupid idea to delay rayman legends to September since all the AAA games are being released around September to December.
Another set of games fall to the "released too close to *fill in the blank*". Same thing happened to Alan Wake.
I called it from the moment they pushed Legends back to September to make it multiplatform. I knew the Wii U version would sell the most since 360/PS3 owners would be busy with GTA V. As KikReask put it. This is the underrated game of 2013. Considering that I saw Legends for $40 at Gamestop told me that the game sold badly.
Trust me pick it up. One of the best games i've ever played. It actually beat out even the likes of Super Mario World.
Just played the Rayman Legends Demo for the first time, and I might pick it up. But if Ubisoft really wants my money, release a game that is all music levels.
If you didn't delay Rayman Legends seven months I would of bought, but in September I had other games to buy and play.
I agree with Nick's praise for Rayman Legends. It's one of the best platformers that I've ever played. I'd put it up there with the classics in a heartbeat. Please, everyone who likes platformers, support this game!
I bought Rayman Legends because I wanted to make a small difference in sales, but I knew it would fall flat on it's ass against GTA V. I hope you're happy Ubisoft, now Rayman Legends will go down as another underrated classic, just like Rayman Origins. Before you know it they'll start bringing back those bloody Rabbids again. I think I'll sit out Assassin's Creed IV until next year as well, that doesn't need my support in sales.
Look, I appreciate that Ubisoft is supporting the Wii U all the way, but we all knew delaying it for multi platform purposes right before other games come out would kill sales.
Which is funny, because they were marketing the crap out of it as a WiiU exclusive back in freaking FEBRUARY!!! Count me in as one of the people who would have gladly put money down then, right now...I am just enjoying WW HD too much...
Release within a month of so of Pokemon and GTA, what do you expect to happen?
It's a shame. Both reviewed very well. Rayman Legends is one of my very favorite games to come out this gen.
Gee Ubisoft, next time if you have a game that's ready release it then instead of waiting until it's a month away from the biggest game in the last 5 freaking years (GTA V if you have been living under a rock)
Some people said they wanted to release rayman Wii U at the same time as the other console versions to just have 1 marketing campaign ... I didn't see any adds or whatever for the game. Like at all ...
