[Update] Well, after weeks of rumors, speculations, and of course the leaked screenshot and advertising material, Ubisoft has finally come clean and has officially confirmed that Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is the real deal!
Here's the box art picture that came with the announcement:

Currently, we don’t know anything about the game other than what has already been leaked and the fact it will be released for the Xbox 360, PS3, PC, and Wii U. However, Ubisoft says it’ll reveal more about the game on Monday March 4, which is the day the posters are supposed to be gracing store displays…funny how that works. ;)
So when the time comes, you better believe we’ll have all of the details fresh from the sea!
What do you think g1s? Is the increased focus on naval combat a good direction to take the series?
Personally, I love the idea. Seriously, challenging stealth-based assassination missions on land and intense naval battles in the Caribbean Sea, the concept alone is enough to make me excited.
Besides, you’re going to be a “Pirate Assassin”! How is that not awesome?
Thanks so very much for the tip Andrej!
[Original Story] Editor’s Note: So, it seems the info we reported on Sunday is correct. Sure there’s no official word from Ubisoft at this point, so this is still technically a rumor but it seems fairly obvious at this the point the next Assassin’s Creed will involve pirates and the Caribbean. Maybe Ubisoft will release some Captain Jack DLC?
We’ll have more on this story as it develops.
Two new pieces of information concerning the next installment in the Assassin’s Creed franchise reportedly have been leaked onto the Internet.
First is a promotional poster, which made its way to
Kotaku. The poster has supposedly been sent to retail stores (to be displayed on March 4), confirming the next game is the previously rumored
Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag.
Here’s the poster:

If that wasn’t enough, The Examiner has found an actual screenshot showing off the main character. The Examiner claims the main protagonist will be Edward Kenway, grandfather of Connor Kenway.
Apparently Edward was a pirate in his early life, sailing between different locations in the Caribbean like Jamaica, Cuba, and the Bahamas, which would again confirm the previous rumors.

So what do you g1s think of this? Do you think this is real?
g1 DISCUSSIONS
Haunt13
so they took the ship battles from AC3 and made a whole game around it? okay than.
Yashooo
I might actually buy this o.o
havent really cared since AC2, but the setting looks really cool. And pirates... pirates are cool =]
Ultra SuperNova
Yar - har - fiddle-dee-dee, being a pirate is all right to be! Do what you want 'cause a pirate is free, you are a pirate!
Digiwario
You KNOW the only reason this game exists is because the boat battles in AC3 were so awesome. lol
Odakicity
Looks awesome.

I eventually bought 2 because it came out on the Mac and i was bored. Not a huge fan of the series, but just from this description (and how good i hear the navel combat in 3 was which they're re using here) I think i may actually buy this. Like, day 1. Not find used months later.
The Gaming News Guy
Fun Fact..that poster that first leaked was drawn by Todd McFarlane..the creator of Spawn....
Odakicity
That is a fun fact.
Janos
Well, at least pirates are cool... How long would it take them to make an Assasin's Creed game based in Feudal Japan I wonder...
TheEnglishman
It's an interesting idea, but I didn't think the sea based gameplay in 3 was amazing. We'll see how well this works.
