[Update]Shipping error to delay the release of Fire Emblem: Awakening

2/3/13 6:20pm

Update: Well it appears this shipping error may not be quite as severe as previously thought. I’ve been doing a bit of digging around and it appears some retailers may be selling the game on its launch day after all. From the looks of it, Walmart will be selling the game on launch day without any hiccups, at least according to the product listing on its website.

Speaking of which, Game Stop’s webpage still has the game slated for a February 4 release despite being plagued by the shipping error. Polygon’s Megan Farkhmanesh reports that the error has only effected an unspecified number of select locations. The same can be said for Best Buy, which oddly enough advertises a February 1 launch on its website… I guess there was a bit of confusion before this mess happened.

I also looked into Target and Kmart but I’m not quite sure what to make of my findings. Target has the same February 1 release date as Best Buy, so it very well could have the game in stock, while the Kmart listing no longer exists. No really. It does not exist. Each time I tried to view it, I was re-directed to a listing for Namco Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy. So yeah. I don’t know what’s going on with Kmart.

So if your heart is set on getting the game tomorrow, you best keep this information in mind and call your local retailers to check and see if they have it or your trip to the store could be a complete bust.

I find any new information throughout the night, I'll be sure to pass it along.

Original Story: If you were one of the many 3DS owners excited for tomorrow’s launch of Fire Emblem: Awakening, you’re going to be a little disappointed, as Game Informer’s Kyle Hilliard reports a shipping error will cause the release to be delayed for a few extra days.

Hilliard spoke with representative’s from both Best Buy and Game Stop about the situation. The Best Buy reps said the game won’t likely be available until Wednesday, while the folks at Game Stop said their stock won’t likely be available till Friday.

Those who ordered the game through Amazon will likely be late to receive their copies as well.

As unfortunate as this is, as delays go, this isn’t all that bad. I mean it’s only a few days. But why Nintendo would want to release a game Monday anyway is beyond me.

Come to think of it, this whole mess is kind of ironic considering Canadian gamers who pre-ordered at EB Games managed to get their copies early. Funny how things workout sometimes eh?

You can still get it on the eShop so, not really a big deal.

Neither of my local gamestops have it. Neither of my local walmarts have it. My local bestbuy doesn't have it. Target doesn't have it. The game doesn't seem to be anywhere in my parish based on stores whose web sites allow me to check store availability.

Only if you have the memory for it.

Well, at least that means my next paycheck will come in to cover the cost of the game + 3DS bundle I reserved

This isn't anything new at all. Here's a little rant about the issue that I posted on other sites:

Now that Nintendo's releasing a high profile game on a Monday (Fire Emblem Awakening), people are actually starting to take notice of the big problem with Monday video game releases—most retailers don't receive the game on release day (and sometimes even lie to you about the release date, like GameStop does). I don't know if the publisher or the retailers are to blame for this issue, but either way it's not fun when you go to the store expecting to get a game you've been waiting for on its release date and you find out the store doesn't even have it yet. I've dealt with this many, many times, but most of the time it's lower profile games that, sadly, not many people are rushing out to get on their release dates, like Kirby Mass Attack, Rhythm Heaven Fever, Pokémon Conquest, Art Academy: Lessons for Everyone!, and Crosswords Plus. I would go from retailer to retailer on those Mondays, finding the same situation everywhere, where either the retailers are honest and say that they haven't received it yet, or they give me some BS about the release date being Tuesday or Wednesday or later (that's GameStop every time, without fail). Tomorrow will be no different, from the looks of it, except in one way—this time many other people will be experiencing my disappointment too. But it's funny, because people will (and are already starting to) complain that this is an issue exclusive to Fire Emblem Awakening's release. No no no, this issue has been around for a long time with every other Monday release from Nintendo. I really hope that something changes regarding these releases, because I'm sick of being disappointed on these Mondays. It's to the point where, when Nintendo announces a Monday release date, I'm already disappointed long before the game comes out because I know I probably won't be able to find it that day. =/
