Video Game Lyrics - Storms and Palaces

12/17/12 5:32pm

In my free time outside of classes, I like to do a variety of things which includes observing the video game medium, either by playing titles that provide entertainment or emotional experiences, or through writing about the various elements of gaming with analysis. It's important to note that there are many presentation components to the final product in video game development beyond the coding of the gameplay mechanics: Graphical style, story script, camera effects, character presentation, varied music, and numerous other factors.

Music in particular appeals to one of the two main senses that a player experiences, unless you also include the sense of touch received from controller vibration, so its instrumental style and at times lyrics can be very important for enhancing atmosphere or striking certain player emotions. Lyrics in particular are actually not too easy to make; you need to consistency follow an accurate rhythm structure that also has a sort of poetic setup to it. The trick is to use syllables correctly so that the words match correctly with the instrumentals.

I felt like making some possible lyrics for two songs from the Legend of Zelda series. One is an abstract song involving multiple Legend of Zelda games, and the other is a narrative song that looks at both sides of the Deku conflict. They might not be the best, but it was mostly just me testing around with the idea out of curiosity.

Song of Storms - With Lyrics

(Look) how they surmise, (look) at their demise

(Look) how they accept, (look) at their suspect

People laugh, people pray, pray the shadows go away

Hope the darkness pass, hope the sunlight last

People cheer, people dream, dream the demons lose esteem

Wonder in the face of pain

(Look) when they assert, (look) how they desert

(Look) when they surprise, (look) how they despise

They will shout, they will fear, fear the goddess not appear

Demons closing in, angels facing sin

They will scare, they will fight, fight the spirits out tonight

Suspense in the light of sun

(Look) what they erase, (look) when they embrace

(Look) what they forget, (look) when they regret

People dance, people love, love the faces up above

Raindrops falling down, water all around

People fall, people lack, lack the reasons to attack

Flowing in the stream of time

(Look) where they respect, (look) what they affect

(Look) where they misplace, (look) what they retrace

They will run, they will save, save the creatures that behave

Roaming in the land, roaming as they stand

They will stop, they will chase, chase the future in disgrace

Ransom in the trail of life

Deku Palace Theme - With Lyrics

Come to the land filled with the song and dance

Where summons are carried in revenge

Head to the center and come see the world

And witness the cruel actions that avenge

Princess is missing somewhere in the swamp

King blinded by anger raised by hate

Monkey is trapped in hopeless dire ropes

Time pass and his pain we shall celebrate

Listen please and help our false framed friend

His knowledge save the land at bay

Trusted with the truth about this curse

Victim of a most riled tribe

Rituals held with lots of flame and fear

Unjust rule sits upon the throne

Madness sever both our kinds apart

Our morals have been sadly thrown

Swamp cursed with evil all because of sin

Dark monsters attack in name of shame

Children go missing all across the land

The monkey is but simply first to blame

Come

Please

Watch his demise

Look

Cheer

Hear all his cries

Stop

Now

Watch fire burn

Tell

Me

Lies he has spurn

Masked man with promise purify the lies

A cast on the world that so decreed

Weather pollute the living given earth

Our temple now cries out and strikes in speed

Swamp poison from a murky violent source

Dark octopi creep across the sea

Moon trembles from the active ranging sky

A chaos envelops without a plea

Past tribes stuck without a modern look

Tradition takes a hold of them

Blindness in the greater threat of doom

The source must be cured at the stem

Seek the temple and help save the girl

This song awakens what is shed

Hurry now and just forget of me

Or trouble will now further spread

Path for a savior all across the land

True goddess of time at hero's side

Vanquish the evils and prevent the end

Look past the conflict and help stop the tide

Help

Stop

Madness with rage

Please

Run

Leave from this cage

Save

Spare

Rescue from pain

Would you mind if someone, you know, sang these and posted them on YouTube? Giving you due credit, of course.

I really enjoy your lyrics and they made sense with the songs. I had trouble with the Deku palace lyrics mostly from my unfamiliarity with the song and personally the song is just slightly to fast to say the words but that can be fixed with practice. The Song of Storms lyrics are very easy to match to the song but finding a rhythm for the (look) parts are awkward. Overall both are phenomenal and I would love to hear both sung. Though for the Deku Palace song it should be a deeper voice to fit not only the tone of the song but also the instruments in the actual song, while the Song of Storms should be sung by a medium-high voice. So I hope you enjoyed my very long winded comment and I hope for more as soon as you can.
