Watch Dogs & The Crew delayed into next fiscal year
Editor's note: Regardless of Caz's opinion on how this delay is "justifiable", what do you think will happen to all the Watch Dog pre-order bundles for the PS4/Xbox One?
Two of Ubisoft's biggest upcoming releases, Watch Dogs and The Crew, have been delayed. Originally planned for a November 19th release and before the end of their fiscal year (before March 31st, 2014) respectively, Ubisoft has decided to release it during their next fiscal year, which begins on April 1st, 2014. The developers of Watch Dogs made the following statement via Ubiblog:
We know a lot of you are probably wondering: Why now? We struggled with whether we would delay the game. But from the beginning, we have adopted the attitude that we will not compromise on quality. As we got closer to release, as all the pieces of the puzzle were falling into place in our last push before completion, it became clear to us that we needed to take the extra time to polish and fine tune each detail so we can deliver a truly memorable and exceptional experience.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you. We thoroughly enjoy and appreciate the way you respond on the web, at events, press conferences and other opportunities we have to interact. Your passion keeps us motivated.
We can’t wait to see you in Chicago next spring. We are confident you’ll love this game as much as we love working on it."
It's upsetting that the game was delayed given it was roughly a month away from its original release date, but it is good that they're giving Watch Dogs the time it needs to polish it as much as they can and not have it compete in what will be one of the most oversaturated Winter release schedules of all time. Unlike the Rayman Legends delay, this one was justifiable and beneficial for both the developers behind it and players waiting to get their hands on it.
Bummer I was looking to picking up Watchdogs with my PS4.
Normally I am all for delays for quality, and I do say a delayed good product is better than a bad one.
But on the other hand this is not keeping with schedule. As a big company I think it is fair to expect some timely-ness in releases. Unless Ubisoft is another "Rockstar Release Date" company now.
Well, I am sad yet optimistic simultaneously. I won't be getting in a month, but does mean there will be time for polish to get rid of bugs and glitches so the game won't break.
Damn, now I have to buy a different game at launch. Any suggestions?
I fully believe that if a game isn't finished, then delay it until it is. Otherwise we get crap and broken games. I completely support this.
why delaying now? shouldnt the game already be in print by now O_o
This is actually kind of good news. I mean yeah it sucks that I have to wait for Watch Dogs but, the silver linging is that I now have less to save for before PS4 launch. This toatally works in my favour.
