Why Capcom didn't and won't re-release the "Other" Marvel Vs. games

7/11/12 8:40pm
tl;dr

Capcom can't re-release X-Men vs. Street Fighter because Activision still holds the rights to the X-Men games titles. The reason we won't be getting Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter is because it's the weakest installment in the Marvel Vs. library.

It's been confirmed by Capcom's representative "Sven" that X-Men vs. Street Fighter nor Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter won't be included in Marvel vs. Capcom Origins for the following reasons.

The first is pretty obvious, but it's been confirmed that X-Men vs. Street Fighter won't be included because the name "X-Men" appears in the game's title and Activision holds the rights to the name brand of X-Men titles. The reason Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter won't be included is because Capcom feels it's the weakest and most lacking of the Marvel Vs. series, which is actually true.

As a member of the fighting game community I'm fine with the two titles we'll be receiving in Marvel vs. Capcom Origins. Marvel Super Heroes is really where Capcom made the foundation of the whole Marvel Vs. series (building upon Children of the Atom of course) and Marvel vs. Capcom is basically a improved version of Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter. All in all, I'd say we got the better games, but that's just my opinion.

Here's the trailer of Marvel vs. Capcom Origins if you haven't seen it yet.

I really hope they release another origins set with SF:Alpha 2, Children of the Atom, and then X-men vs Street fighter. In my opinion, that is the beginning origins of the series, but of course, that can't happen as of now.

Marvel Super Heroes and MvC are easily the best two. MSH for it's awesome gem system and MvC being the final version of the crossover games.

We are still getting two of them which is good. I never played a good version of the original. I had the awtiful PlayStation port. I'm familiar with both these games.

I'm ok with this at least we get the better two games for the price of one but what the hey I'd buy them individually anyway.

After all this time, I still remember the code to play as Roll, Shadow Lady, and Red Venom in Marvel vs Capcom.

I hate being on the minority on this one, but Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter was my favorite of the series, mainly for two reasons: 1. It has more characters than the sequel, if you include secret characters and the main roster. 2. The music is more action packed in MSHvsSF: one example is the comparison between Ryu's theme in MSHvsSF and MvC, clearly Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter had better music, thanks to Yuki Iwai. Minority, again, but that is easily my favorite of the series......except for the final (not FINAL final) boss being no different from the previous game.

I actually think that Marvel Superheroes vs. Street Fighter is one of the best out of Capcom's library. Kinda makes me sad that it wasn't included in Origins, but eh, I still have Marvel vs. Capcom.

Also, Capcom please. Capcom vs. SNK 2 HD? Please?
