Wii U already a problem child for developers

9/8/11 3:20pm

A "reliable source has indicated that the Wii U may be a headache for some developers, as "the final hardware has been 'rushed through the door'".  Of all the consequences that one can expect from rushed hardware, the worst is when it won't work as advertised. That is exactly what claims are being brought up in regards to the Wii U.

Worst of which is the wireless functionality, which "simply do not work at all". In fact, even the tethered controller which  "still does not work properly". Which begs the question, what is the point of a new controller if it doesn't work?  The source of this rumor is 01.net and they conclude that developers are expecting Nintendo to release this hardware in June 2012. As the engineers work feverishly to make everything work.

According to 01net, Nintendo has already burned through three prototypes and is on its way to a fourth. Marc-Aurele Fortin

It just doesn't make sense! You have the game at the tv and the menu or something like it on your hand. When you pass the game to your hand you lose the motion control of the game, the menu, etc. It's a trainwreck for developers!

So at first it was easy to develop for, and now it's hard to develop for? Make up your minds devs. I'm having a hard time believing that suddenly it's hard to develop for because at first it was apparently really easy to develop for. If Nintendo misses its June 2012 release and pushes it to late summer or even the holiday season, it would be fine by me because I know that that time would be used to make sure everything works. I absolutely hate it when developers release unfinished games, only to patch them on day one. Find your problems before release. If you have to wait a few months to do that, go ahead Nintendo.

Even if they claimed it were working perfectly, Nintendo burned me with my day one purchase of the 3DS. For that, they lost a Wii U customer. I'll only be considering it after several price drops and if there's actual worthwhile games coming out at a steady pace. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice...well, you know how the saying goes.

It's hard to know what to make of it. On one hand, I wouldn't be surprised if it were true, and in that case, Nintendo, what the HELL are you doing? But on the other hand, this just seems too unbelievable to be true... Let's just hope it's not, else I will resume my stance about not buying a Wii U on launch day.
