Wii U will be selling at a loss according to Nintendo
For anyone who hasn’t already heard, Nintendo isn’t doing so hot. They posted another loss for this year, citing week 3DS sales as the main culprit. Through this though, Nintendo has revealed a few tidbits about the upcoming Wii U launch. The most important of which is the fact that Nintendo will be selling the console at a loss. Senior managing director Yoshihiro Mori confirmed this by stating
Nintendo would still like to sell around 5.5 million units before the end of the fiscal year and the Wii U launch window. While this isn’t unheard of, Nintendo is probably betting on strong Wii U sales throughout the holiday season, followed up with software sales. Anything to decrease the loss they might have to acknowledge come the end of 2012.
