Wii U will not ban Used Games
Used games can be used on the Wii U.
As you all know, when selling games to GameStop and Best Buy, retailers will give you trade in credit for used games, and then re-sell those games to gain profits for themselves. This does hurt the video game companies, because every time people buy a new game the profits go to developers/publishers, but when people buy a used game the profit goes to the company that sold the used game.
The rumor keeps on flying around that Microsoft and Sony want to ban used games on their next gen consoles. That has not been unverified or denied by Microsoft or Sony. Even though Microsoft and Sony might ban used games on their next generation consoles, Nintendo has confirmed that the Wii U will not ban used games as from what Nintendo of America EVP Scott Moffitt says.
It’s unknown on whether Nintendo will ban used games in the future but it good to see that their next generation console will be able to play used games. So if Sony and Microsoft next gen consoles ban used games, let’s hope that the Wii U will keep GameStop alive.
Don't they already? Resident Evil did. Bonus ones, even.
I think people are overestimating damage that used games cause the industry. The majority of a game's sales are from initial release, and the used game market doesn't doesn't impact sales significantly in any way until weeks later. It also gives people who buy many new games some way to get money back to buy newer ones, and keeps companies who sell older games in business, which is important because older games would either be impossible to get, or be distributed online making the industry stagnant.
That's actually a brilliant strategy. If Microsoft and Sony ban used games, Nintendo's console will become the monopoly of having the freedom and ability to play used games, thus encouraging people to buy more games for the system, new or used. It could really be a deciding factor in who buys what console, even though technically the used games racket would still be hurting them.
Nintendo needs to allow third party titles on the Wii U to give you Club Nintendo coins. That way new game sales can be encouraged for the game.
Nintendo: Since 1985 being the best game company ever
Thank you lord
This has made the decision for me. Looks like I will be getting a Wii U in the future, sorry Sony and Microsoft.
If sony and microsoft do take actions to alienate used gamers, i hope nintendo makes a lot of money from sony and microsoft fans who would rather have the freedom to game used than stick with sony or microsoft.
I don't know why they would EVER ban used games when those new games will eventually become used down the line.
Aw yeah. Nintendo:1 Who ever you want to put below them:0
Oh buhuu Sony and Microsoft and hurting the video game companies? give me a f-ing break. This really make me rage because no one is seeing the obvious here. Selling/buying stuff used can not be called hurting the video game companies beacouse it is a fact in every buissness were something is sold. I dont care if it is cars, laundromats, stereos, houses or mounted singing rubber fish, everything gets sold used and thats the way its allways been and it is very important that it stays that way. Why? beacouse if used games get banned what happens is that you will be buying a game for 60 dollars that after one use becomes financially useless ( a problem with digital sales as well, wich is why they should be cheaper so thumbs up to steam). Selling something for a price that when purchased instantly becomes worthless is what is known as a scam. In short they want to sit on a pile of money and make sure no one els ever can get a piece of the cake even if the have right to it. Hey heres a suggestion for you sony and microsoft if you are having such a problem with game stop then challenge them in there own arena, put down some money and start your own used game stores and compete fairly with gamestop instead of punishing the fans that got you your money in the first place.
I tottoally agree. If the game just came out I'd rather wait for it to get cheaper or just by it new. I don't want to pay 40 bucks for a used game.
I mean, fuck Gamestop but yeah, good to see that we still have the freedom to choose.
This makes sense. Nintendo still know gamers better than Sony or Microsoft. I remember reading another article about this with the bloke saying they know how hard it is for some gamers to buy new games without having to trade their old games in. Not to mention games are only new for a short while and then no more get produced so if you want to buy a game that came out 2 years ago or more you'll have to buy it used. Wish more poeple in the industry realised that not everything to do with used games is evil.
It's because of times like these that I can't help but love Nintendo.
I am poor, and this is good news :D
Because no one likes used goods XD, but yeah, I'm less willing to part with a game if I bought it new. I did trade in some of my new games before, but after I realized how much I wanted to play some of those titles again, I decided to no longer trade my games in, considering that I only buy games new if I know 100% I'm going to love it.
This is an honorable move by Nintendo. It's being a good company by allowing gamers to buy however they want, knowing that every used game sold is a small chunk of money out of their profit. For me, there's just something special about getting a brand new game rather than one that's been used.
I know used games do hurt the developers BUT it's also a great way to attract new fans of their franchises. I didn't play Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect until last year so if I had to purchase all the games brand new, yeah, I wasn't going to do that, but since I was able to get them used and ended up loving them, I was more than willing to buy the sequels brand new.
