Will NextBox be called Xbox 8?
A few months ago there were rumors that the next console from Microsoft should be named Xbox 8, and the reason was that it would fit well with the launch of Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 Now, Fusible tell that Microsoft has started the hunt for URLs associated with Xbox 8, and among them are Xbox8.us and Xbox8.org.
The domains are registered on the rest of a Chinese named Chen Juan, and there are numerous other Xbox domains that Microsoft has not shown interest. We do not know with certainty why just Juan's address is interesting, but all support the rumors that the console will be called Xbox 8
It is also worth mentioning that Microsoft has secured the rights to XboxPhone.com, XboxTablet.com and XboxLiveTV.com, which also had been registered by this enterprising Juan.
Microsoft has already acquired the rights to several Xbox-8-related URLs.
Super Wii couldn't work simply 'cause the name Wii it's self is just too susceptible to dick jokes. I wish Nintendo would drop the Wii name completely, and go back to calling it the 'Nintendo somethingorother'. Either that, or release a version of the Wii U that's grey and purple, like the Super Nintendo. :B
That sounds awesome!
It can be tricky to tie in what makes the console unique. I mean, Sony can always just add a number, but then over time, their consoles can quickly lose their identity.
With 720, MS would be putting themselves in a spiral (pun intended). The next system would be the 1080 and it would just keep going. Do you really want to buy a system called the Xbox 1440?
I tried to come up with a better name than the Wii U and, despite all the suggestions that I read online, nothing ever struck me as BETTER and few things were as creative. I mean, a lot of people were saying Super Wii... seriously.
Flip the 8 to the side. Xbox Infinity or Xbox 720 with two 360 circles side by side.
Xbox 1, Xbox 360, Xbox 8...
I think its very clear that Microsoft cannot count.
Is it really that difficult to make an awesome name for a console..
Xbox 3 or 720 would be better. Seriously, 8? It makes sense for Windows but...
THE NAME MAKES NO SENSE.
Could it be Something like Xbox Infinite, it has marketing appeal.
I very much doubt they'll call it Xbox 8, but then again, this is a Steve Ballmer-run Microsoft (even though I know he's not as involved with the Xbox part as he is with the Windows side) these days, and that's already a mess as it is.
Sounds like the Xbox 8 is a mobile device. Ps Vita, 3DS, competitor. The inclusion of the phone and tablet domain leads me to believe there may be a new line of these. The Xbox Phone being like the Ps phone, similar control scheme. Same with the tablet, where as the Xbox 8 could be the gaming device; able to run games like Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed.
No! Give it a new name. The next consoles should be something new, not a sequel to stuff that came out in 2005
If they DO call it Xbox 8, they won't have to worry about coming up with a marketing slogan. For the commercials, just have the 8 flip onto its side and add the tagline, "Infinite Possibilities".
Xbox 8 could be the service which allows you to play Xbox games on your PC.
i think Xbox 8 is a stupid name because win 8 will be outdated soon, and Xbox 8 doesn't sound catchy.
If children cry hearing Wii U, they'll puke, shit and ask: Did they just skipped 5 XBoxes?
XBox 8 would seriously be just as bad of a name, if not worse, then Wii-U. Where have the memorable console names gone? I remember when just hearing the name of the console could get you excited. SUPER Nintendo! Genesis! Jaguar! The fucking Atari Jaguar is beating out Microsoft and Nintendo in the name game. I don't want to live on this planet anymore.
Great now we have Wii U and Xbox 8, now all we need is the PS$ to keep with the eighth generation's theme of putting random letters, numbers and symbols at the end of excisting console names.
I doubt it would actually be called that. Acquiring the rights to those URLs is more likely referencing the collaboration between itself and windows 8 in some form.
Everyone knows numerical order is 0, 360, 8, 23, 786, etc. Duh!
