Will the XBLA port of Minecraft receive constant updates?
We all know that Microsoft has high hopes for the upcoming XBLA port of Mojang's PC mega hit, Minecraft. However, there is a slight problem which Microsoft and developer 4J Studio are trying their best to overcome. That problem is the fact that XBLA doesn't allow for updates to be available as quickly as they can be for the PC. This is indeed a large obstacle, considering how much Notch and company update the PC version.
During an interview with Edge, 4J Studio's chief technology officer Paddy Burns said Microsoft could potentially speed up the testing process, in order to make the updates for the XBLA version available at a fairly constant rate. Although he does admits these updates wouldn't be available as quickly as they would be on the PC and they would hopefully be available every two months or so, which isn't too bad for an XBLA game.
Minecraft should be available on the Xbox Live Marketplace sometime before the end of winter or sometime in early spring.

So to play this I guess you need a gold account?

If its Microsofts system, can't they just make an exception for Minecraft and make the updates instant?

They could do it if they really wanted to, but they don't. The whole point of the approval process is to filter out "harmful" content. Devs can easily slip in porn or hate/religious propaganda with their updates. They need to "protect the children", so they made this unnecessarily bureaucratic approval process to ensure you get appropriate content.

I was thinking the same thing.

Yes.

This might be my best bet for playing Minecraft. Good to hear they're going to try to keep it up to date (unlike other Arcade titles. I think Monday Night Combat got left in the dust...)

Yea sadly the approval process of XBLA made the devs focus on the PC, then they wanted to update it more often and made SMNC.
