The February issue of GameInformer will have the exclusive story regarding  XCOM: Enemy Unknown. No not XCOM, the shooter coming from 2K Marin, this is the Firaxis Games version. Yes, the geniuses behind Sid Meier's Civilization franchise and Sid Meier's Pirates will be re-making the classic X-COM you know and love. Here is what Steve Martin; President of Firaxis Games has to say about the recent announcement:

"It’s been a dream of ours to recreate X-COM with our unique creative vision. We’re huge fans of the original game and it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to re-envision a game that is as beloved as X-COM,We were careful to keep XCOM: Enemy Unknown true to the elements that made X-COM such a revered game while delivering an entirely new story and gameplay experience for both die-hard X-COM fans and newcomers to the franchise."

The shooter from 2K Marin came under a lot of scrutiny for abandoning the gameplay format of its predecessors. According to GI, it will feature destructible environments, a real-time strategic POV, and turn-based combat. This game will be coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC this fall; which means I just burned another $60. TOTALLY WORTH IT! Here is the cover from GI.
