With big financial loses, getting sued by EA, the cancelation of 13 games, and recently laying off a fair portion of employees from varying studios around the world, it’s safe to say social gaming giant Zynga has seen better days. However, the company has just announced a new business venture it hopes will help turn things around and it’s quite literally a gamble.
Zynga will be partnering up with online gambling provider bwin.party to create a variety of new games in which players can win and lose (can’t forget to stress LOSE) real money. The first of which will be a Farmville slot machine set for a 2013 launch on bwin’s service.
Not only that but it also seems as if Zynga may decide to make online gambling its primary focus, as CFO David Wehner told investors this new partnership is just the first phase of a larger plan.
"We view this as a first step into real money gaming, and we believe that it's a good first step. But it's only a first step toward what we think is a large opportunity for Zynga."
Well, I certainly don’t look forward to the inevitable barrage of invites from friends to go gamble in CasinoVille. Oh you’ll have a good laugh at that this joke now but just you wait. Just you wait.
