Rant: Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe

(This is a second time writing this because I typed this entire thing up, then my computer shut off and I had to retype it. If I made a lot of mistakes, I'm sorry, I forget spelling and grammer when I'm frustrated.)

Let's get one thing out of the way, this isn't me telling you the game will be bad. This is me telling you why I think the game could be bad.

I am a casual fighting game fan, but I loved the Marvel vs. Capcom series. It was so cool to see my favorite characters from Street Fighter face off against my favorite X-Men.

As a kid, I remember playing this and being a fan of Mortal Kombat, thought, "They should have the Mortal Kombat characters fight comic book characters." Unfortunately, when I grew up, I no longer wanted this, but then the wish from my childhood was fulfilled.

I couldn't believe it when I heard it, and I was anything but happy. I was shocked, mostly because I don't see this working. There are two problems I had with this idea.

1. This would have been a great idea, if it had been done maybe 10 years ago. Mortal Kombat was at the height of it's popularity then, and releasing a crossover then would have been something to complement the already awesome series. Instead, they release it in 2008 when it's not nearly as popular, and the crossover instead makes it seem more like a gimmick than anything.

2. There aren't that many really popular DC characters. Just going through the ones who will probably be in the game, let's think: There's Batman, Superman, The Flash, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Green Arrow, and maybe the Martian Manhunter. Obviously there will be villians, but the only one that I feel is worthy of being a character is probably the Joker. I know I left out Aquaman, but let's face it: How useful will he be in a fight against Sub-Zero? Besides, we all know how the last game Aquaman was in turned out.

"An issue with this game is that it seems that it is being treated as the next game in the MK series (MK 8), and not just a side game to the series (like Shaolin Monks). As such, it may be that the story of the game may be taken as canon, at least in the MK Universe. If that's the case, then the entire continuity of the MKU will probably be thrown out the window. If the game is, however, just an aside or not actual canon, then I think it could be better accepted."

In conclusion I'm not saying that this game will be bad, I'm just saying that it could be bad. I really hope it turns out good because I am a big fan of crossovers if they are done correctly (see Battletoads & Double Dragon).

As an end note, Marvel teamed up with Capcom, DC is teaming up with Midway. Image comics just need to team up with Namco for a Soul Calibur crossover and we will be all set.

Oh wait...

The only good thing about

The only good thing about this is that we finally get to have the long-awaited DC fanboys' wet dream: Superman vs. Batman.

Justice League Task Force for the SNES/Genesis

Ouch...

This game hurt so bad. Anyways it's obvious that you didn't read the Batman Vs Superman comic where Batman beat Superman by putting Kryptonite on his batterang which was convenently placed on his belt... *sigh*

Batman vs Superman

I'm sure we've seen Batman fight Superman in actual comics plenty of times over the past 70 years.

One instance I can think of right off the bat is in The Dark Knight Returns.

Batman and Superman have

Batman and Superman have fought before, but it's the fact that this game is making it so that Superman is without his invulnerability at all. Instead all he has is flight, laser vision, superstrength, and a very unmanly outfit (Sorry to all you superman fans). Still that wasn't that big of an issue. Focus more on the Aquaman issue.

Agree

If they did make this game back in maybe 1999 or 2000, this game would have been more interesting. I'm actually a fan of Mortal Kombat, and most crossovers like Smash bros, BattleToads and Double Dragon, Marvel vs Capcom, Snk vs Capcom, Snk Battle Collusiem.
But I don't know if crossovers work anymore, the only one so far is Smash bros, but just imagine if every company did a game like this.
Sony releases an platforming game featuring Ratchet and Clank helping Sly Cooper and Jak take down whatever the army was in Heavenly sword or lair and killing the greek gods. or a shooter crossover of Gears and Halo. These just don't sound good, much like MK VS DC just doesn't sound good.

I didn't know that when I

I didn't know that when I was writing this. If you don't mind I'd like to attach this on to the rant if you wouldn't mind.
