I've been thinking about some sleeper hits lately, especially one of my all time favorites: Joe and Mac 2:Lost in the Tropics for SNES. For those of you who don't know, it was released by the ill-fated company Data East about halfway through the SNES lifespan in the early 1990s.
The game itself features Joe and Mac from the original game, but the levels can be beaten in any order with the exception of the first and last levels. Also, you can buy stuff like additions for your hut and flowers to win over a wife. It's a pretty challenging game and has excellent music and great graphics for the time. It's a decent platformer. The bosses are memorable and tough too.
So let me know what other sleeper hits you boys and girls like. There are recent sleeper hits like Katamari Damacy and the Advance Wars series. Good STUFF!! The General especially prefers Advance Wars since you get to blow the crap out of the enemy with superior firepower and tactical know-how. Yeah, now that's a great game!! There are loads of sleeper hits out there that need to be brought to the light. One of my most wanted sleepers is called Brigandine, which is a tactical RPG for PS1. It's pretty rare nowadays but it looks amazing.
General Chaos: Alright, start commenting!! Mario, Samus, Master Chief, Snake, Cloud, Sonic, and so many others get too much attention. Let's give guys like Maxim from Lufia II:Rise of the Sinistrals a chance.
Soldier: Sir yes SIR!!
General Chaos: Yeah...now MOVE OUT!!
This is General Chaos signing out.
heres a list
Oddworld abes exodess
ty the tazmanian tiger
and Jersy Devel
Jersey Devil
Jersey Devil pwnz! A couple of other good ones are Power Blade, Shadowrun(genesis version), Rogue Galaxy, and Boogerman.
Rogue Galaxy....hmm
I've wanted to try Rogue Galaxy for quite some time now. I see it in the stores from time to time and it looks like an RPG similar to the Star Ocean series. What is it actually like? It certainly has been overlooked, that's for sure.
Alright boys, let's get in there and destroy General Havoc once and for all!
It's rather recent, but Lost
It's rather recent, but Lost Odyssey for the 360. It has a magnificent story, the battles are great, and it's hard as hell.(Grinding on 1 exp monsters? Hell yes.) It's more than that 10 hour crap you get with shooters, here we're talking about 30-50 hours, depending how savvy you are with RPGS.
And guess what? People were too occupied with Halo 3 to care.
Edit: The graphics are also pretty good, mostly the cut scenes though.
P.S. Jansen is corny, but he rules.
I truly do not want to debate on the subject
But Halo 3 isnt a bad game, it's just over rated. If you ask me CoD 4 is far supeirior, though I suck balls at all fps...
on topic. Slight spilers.
I'm not sure if this is considered a sleeper hit, but I'd have to say the Trauma Centre sieries are all very good games. The DS one is particularily challenging. The Wii ones, Second Opinion and New Blood, are also extremly well done;despite being signifigantly easier.
For people who don't know, Trauma Centre is about being a surgeon who well...operates on people. You get to do many things, taking glass shards out opf people, removing tumors, trying to kill uber supertasticallistic viruses that do things such as cut peoples organs up.
Oh yeah, it's set in the near future and the medical world has improved greatly. Humans can now cure cancer and many other diseases that hurt the world before.
Anyways, a highly reccomended game.
Trauma Center
Oh yeah, Trauma Centre definitely looks like it's not only a sleeper hit, but also one of the most innovative games for any system. I tried it for a little bit and found it to be quite amusing.
You are right about the popular games. I think Halo 3 is a decent game for sure. Actually, as the General, I taught Master Chief everything he knows! I like playing through the campaign with a couple friends sometimes. I have yet to play any of the CoDs.
Alright boys, let's get in there and destroy General Havoc once and for all!
I know, I'm not saying Halo
I know, I'm not saying Halo 3 is a bad game, in fact I think it's wonderful, it just doesn't live up to all its said to be. People just overlook great oppertunities when another game in their "favoritest" series comes out. People just need to learn when to take a chance with a new franchise.
rpgs on 360=fail
your correct thats why whatever the hell company decided to release this game on 360 are totally retarded, 360 owners want nothing but fps and...... fps games hence why you statement about halo 3 is correct.
Of games in the last 2
Of games in the last 2 console generations, Gladius (NOT Gradius) immediately comes to mind. It was such a good tactical game, it was long, it was fairly free-roaming, two different story lines, and vikings. Also, the Sonic Advance series honestly flew under a lot of peoples' radars. One game I've heard about that I really want to play is Ninja Five-0 for the GBA.
Startopia and Evil Genius.
Startopia and Evil Genius. They were epics that no-one heard about. Sad reality. :'(
Maximo
Maximo, he only had 2 games but they were great. Those games also were two of the only good 2d-3d conversions, brought to you by Capcom. It was a remake of Ghouls n' Ghosts.
Rygar for ps2 it was cool
Rygar for ps2 it was cool for its time
Here are some games I own
Here are some games I own that I consider sleepers.

SNES - Sunset Riders, E.V.O.
Xbox - Obscure, Breakdown
Cube - Ikaruga (only saying it is a sleeper because its on the cube), Geist, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes
Dreamcast - D2, Illbleed, Dynamite Cop
I've got plenty more but I didn't want to make this list 1,000,000,000,000 words long.
