I don't want to Know games ratings!

I don't read reviews... why is this? Because when I read a review it can put me off a game that I might have bought before.

I know people will say that it helps you pick up a good game and avoid the crap ones but I want to find that out for myself. Sometimes I might find myself enjoying games that got bad reviews because I didn't know they had bad reviews.

The only reason I'm writing this is because when I go on websites latley I see the game score from a review everywhere.

Take GT I want to watch a video but when I go on the game page and it tells me whatthey reviewed it right at the top. And IGN they do the same at the right of the screen

It annoys me But what can I do about it?
I don't think no one should review anything because that would be silly. I just think that game websites should stop posting there scores on every other screen.

What do you think?

I like reviews but take them with a grain of salt.

There have been many games that received glowing reviews that I just didn't like and many more that either received average, below average, or simply awful reviews that I greatly enjoyed.

I use reviews as a tool to help me decide what's worth owning. For example, Mass Effect. I fell in love with it when it was debuted at E3, followed all the coverage, preordered it and watched the bonus DVD about ten times, then right before it came out I started reading reviews (Ended up reading a lot of reviews because my 360 died two days before release) but those reviews were helpful because they gave me an idea of what to expect from the game.

A review for a game like GTA IV or MGS4 I tend to just ignore. Most of the time reviews for games like that start with "You're going to buy this game if you haven't already preordered it, so..." and they can just be dismissed because they're either written to avoid fanboy hate mail or are a copy/paste from a press release passed off as a review.

Doubt me? Go look up the backlash against Jeff Gertsman for his review of Twilight Princess or Yahtzee's fanmail video from last week. Give any overhyped game or new additon to a beloved series a fair review and nerds everywhere will rush to their keyboards to furiously type their rage on every forum and blog they can find.

Opinions

You have to remember that whoever is reviweing the game is very unlikely to share the same tastes as you, and therefore their review shouldn't effect your opinion on a game.

I tend to watch and read reviews not for advice on what game to buy...I just watch them for giggles, and so that I can rub it in their face when the reviewers are wrong!

Bow down to me, for I am your god!

ill agree but with one reservation

i think that game reviews serve a purpose. if you do not have a lot of money, you may want to only buy the games that might be no good. some people have to be careful of what games that they may blow their hard earned money on only to find out that the game sucks.

i think that game reviews help, but you can also rent the game and see if you like it.
