Forgotten Project - Resident Evil 1.5 (RE2 prototype) Pt. 2

Welcome back to another episode of Forgotten. Last time I spoke about the concept art for Resident Evil 1.5, the Resident Evil 2 prototype. Many people were excited to see what I had found, but it's about to get a lot better. In this entry I will show off some character bios along with some information on each character that were put together by bioflames dot com. All of that and more, today...on Forgotten.

Before I begin, I'd like to thank bioflames dot com for providing almost all of the information I was able to dig up. This is an awesome site dedicated to RE1.5, and they are constantly sending an updated petition list to CAPCOM asking for this game to one day be released. It's been rumored that a Resident Evil Collection project is in the works, so many are expecting this game to be available on it. Keep in mind the game was around 80% complete when they scrapped this project. In case you wanted to check out the site, here's a link:

Alright, it's time to get this show started. I'll go ahead and proceed in the same order I did in the last blog. I'll be showing off the characters, along with a short bio, in the same order they appeared in my last installment. Keep in mind, the bio I'll be describing is their character from RE1.5, not RE2. So some facts may be a bit different. Enjoy!

Leon S. Kennedy has been with the R.P.D. for a few days when all hell breaks loose. He is able to remain as calm, cool, and collected as any veteran officer, but does show the tentativeness of a rookie at times. He proceeds to the police station in hope for safety...

Photobucket
She is a motorcycle enthusiast, who hopes to form her own racing team with fellow motorcycle fans from Raccoon City. She came to Raccoon City alone, her only companion being her trusty bike. Being from the big city, she can keep a level-head in some of the most scariest of situations, and can be aggressive when needed. Little did she know, when she came to this suburban town of Raccoon City, was that the dead were already awaiting her. She proceeded to the police station in hope that someone there would be able to help her...

Photobucket
Linda seems to be a scientist for the Umbrella Corporation that you run into while inspecting the police station. Her main role in the game is Leon's sub-character, much like in the final version of RE2. Not much information was released on her character.

Photobucket
Marvin Branagh is Leon's survivor character. You find him in the police station, and he follows you through out the game. Marvin is a veteran officer and Leon's partner. His role wasn't completely destroyed in the official release of RE2. You find a file on top of Leon's desk informing Leon of a party he and the rest of the cops were going to throw for him.

Photobucket
Sherry was Elza's sub-character, and still played the same role that she did in RE2. She was still the daughter of Anette and William Birkin, but not much can be said about her significance to the story. While she did help you solve a few puzzles, it was never officially released on how important she really was.

Photobucket
John was Elza's survivor in the game, and definitely played a much larger role than he was given in the final version of RE2. He followed Elza to the end of the game, but apparently would end up sacrificing himself in order to save her life.

Photobucket
Not much is known about this character other than he was a rookie cop. Apparently he was a lot like the final production of Leon. He wanted people to take him seriously, but no one ever did. He is found wounded in the R.P.D. building. Not much else is known about his character. Even the room he is in is completely white with no texture mapping anywhere.

Photobucket
Anette played the same role she played in RE2, except she wasn't really an enemy. She wanted the G-Virus, and was still the wife of William, but she wasn't out to kill you. It appears as if she even assist Leon in a few of the screens featured in her bio.

Photobucket
Cheif Irons was to be the complete opposite of what he turned out as. He was found injured, and dieing and would attempt to help you before he turned into a zombie. The mayor's daughter was nowhere in sight, nore was the feeling of a man who had lost his mind.

Now onto the bios for the enemies. Much more can be said for most of the enemies, thanks to video footage. I'll give you a quick rundown of the enemies:
Photobucket
The Zombies in RE1.5 are probably some of the most creative in any of the RE games. You had fast zombies, fat zombies, many variations of the female zombies, acid spitting zombies, and ordinary zombies. The fast zombies moved much quicker than ordinary zombies, fat zombies moved a bit slower but took a lot more ammunition to take down, instead of one character model for the female zombie like there were in RE2, there were many. There were also acid-spitting zombies where that was their only attack. An interesting thing to mention, is that all of these zombie types made their debut in Resident Evil 3 Nemesis.

Photobucket
The giant spiders were pretty much the exact same as they were in RE1 and RE2. They would spit venom at you from a distance, and would climb the walls. There isn't much more to say about them.

Photobucket
Originally there were more than one crocodile in RE1.5. That is, there was the big momma croc, and the smaller baby crocodiles. You came across the mother in the sewers, much like RE2, but the battle was way different. You were stuck in a circle shaped room, with no flammable barrel in sight. It was up to you to take out the mother crocodile. The babies were all over the sewer section of the game and would leap in the air and attack your torso. It's a shame they didn't make it into the final cut, I would have loved to experiment with them.

Photobucket
Before the Licker, there was the Man-Spider. It would break out of vents and sprint towards you. It would than attempt to grab a hold of you and attack your face. From the way they appear, to their way of attacking, the Man-Spider is the obvious predecessor to the Drain Deimos and Brain Suckers from Resident Evil 3 Nemesis.

Photobucket
William Birkin only appeared in one "monster" form in RE1.5. He did however get a hold of his signature metal pipe. There isn't much known about the future of his character, and wether he had several encounters or not. It seems he played a much larger role in Resident Evil 2, then he was originally planned.

Photobucket
Here's probably one of the most interesting enemies to appear in Resident Evil 1.5. I say this because not only is it entirely unique, but it has yet to appear in any other Resident Evil game (besides maybe Outbreak). There were two forms of these gorillas, much like the crocodiles, the boss gorilla and the peons. The boss gorilla was huge and the fight took place in the parking lot of the R.P.D. building. The peon gorillas were throughout the basement area of the police department, and were a tough bunch to get rid of. They were quick and agile, and could knock you several feet away with a single blow. I would have LOVED to see these enemies one day, but it appears as if we never will.

Thank you for reading Part 2 of this amazing series of Forgotten. Make sure you check back next time when I unveil what many of you have been waiting for, screen-shots. I'll point out the differences in setting, character models, and some very neat features that were either different or never made it into Resident Evil 2. As always, make sure you leave a comment if you want a Personal Message for when Part 3 comes out. And of course, please comment, rate, digg, whatever. Just give me some feedback, I love to see what you guys have got to say, and it's always fun talking with my fellow g1s. Thanks for reading, and I'll see you guys next time...on Forgotten.

Wow now that is a blast from the past

I remember seeing old screenshots of fat zombie cops in EGM and reading about cockroach men

One of the coolest images was of the jail area and zombie hands reached out from the bars to try to grab Leon as he runs by

ah gonna take us back to the past

to look at games that didn't suck ass

very informative
it looks like they put alot of effort into making this game

it's a shame it never was re-leased

Amen! - I make music. Here.

I remember seeing early

I remember seeing early gameplay footage of RE 1.5 as well as some concept art, but thanks for bringing it altogether in one place!

Gah!

I hate the spiders in the Resident Evil games, they're so damn creepy. I don't know how I would've handled Man-Spiders. And Gorillas sound fun :)

It would've been neat to see this game... but Resident Evil 2 they eventually developed is a great game.

Plus, remember the first Resident Evil ad where it mentioned something like a guard tower and cemetery but didn't appear in the game? It looks like the RE games constantly change through development (or at least the early ones)

PM me.

Awesome blog, and now you even got the top g1 post. Awesome!

I don't understand...

why they screwed this game and made a new. I know, they said it would look too much like RE 1, but I think that's bullshit. RE 2 is awesome, but it looks pretty much the same, except for a few chars like Elza and it's in the police station and not in a office. I would love to see a release of RE 1.5 maybe on the PS2 or NDS. I think it would be a pretty huge success.

PM please

Could you please leave me a PM about the next part when it comes out, that would be very appriciated.
