I'm a bit baffled, why is there two spots for blogs in my little do stuff box?
when it said create Content I was hoping there would be space to upload artwork etc...
anyway while I have you here....and thank you for randomly reading my Blog...because goodness knows I'm one of many and I just started on this site (which is much better than 1up.com by the way)
anyway I wanted to talk about my thoughts on the industry
and I'm probably going to do this from time to time because I've been following the industry since SNES
also what follows is my opinion...like it or lump it.
Right so awhile back there was all this talk about how big budget games were going to drive up production costs and the creative market for original games was going to go right into the toilet.
And then it happened...Bionic Commando Rearmed came out.
yeah so...it's a remake that was safe because it was a game that already existed.
Well that's true but it also did two things that the rest of the industry should capitalize on
First of all, it used the same engine as their up coming sequel for the same franchise
and two it proved that fun play mechanics with a bit of nice graphics tossed in = good sales
Okay so here's how I see it, using your game engine to make a lower production game is a brilliant move, because it increases your chances of making money back on your initial investment building the engine, which in turn allows you to have the capital to invest in more games...potentially tons more hit games.
but here's the thing, say Grin (or whatever developer) made their engine flexible enough to make other games that aren't Bionic Commando related that sold as well as Bionic Commando Rearmed?
See where I'm going with this? sure you do.
So here's what I hope will happen starting with this generation of consoles
I want to see a Two Tier Games Market
on the one Tier you have your major studio releases.
on the Second Tier you have your quality Download games
that focus on great play mechanics but might not have the latest and greatest graphics...Bionic Commando Rearmed is a prime example because it looked nice but employed what would be considered by today's standards as modest graphics that were high def yes...but the models were low poly and the backgrounds weren't as detailed as possible etc..
I'm not talking the usual cookie cutter shooters that we have been getting
I'm talking SNES and Genesis Era quality titles, essentially a rebirth of all the 2D genres, not just the spaceship shooter
all running on modified next gen engines such as the Unreal 3 engine and any other proprietary engines or even strictly 2D engines if that market becomes viable...and as we've seen with the few outstanding examples it is
Remakes are welcome but I'd like to see original titles
Mega Man 9 is a prime example of the movement I hope to see
All at the pricing we've already seen...obviously no one is going to pay more than 10 dollars now that the precident has been set by Grin
which calls into question the price of all lesser titles
now that I know that I can get a game that is to the level of BCR...I'm less likely to pick up something that isn't as in depth for the same price I.E: your basic shooter like say centipede...but that's a bad example because I love that game and I did pick it up with millipede on XBLA for around 10 bucks or whatever 800 Microsoft points comes to...but still proves my point because I wouldn't have it was stand alone with no enhancements.
anyway I'm rambling so I'll wrap it up there
thanks for reading
and I'll close with

Nice Blog
Very detailed for your first blog here and is better than some peoples blogs involving ass toasters.
Welcome to the community and no worries, as far as I know, there are no limitations on blogs. You should also link or repost blogs in the forums for those who do not read blogs or vice versa.
Thank you very much for the positive feedback
I'm trying to keep things friendly and so far I'm off to a good start
