"There isn't an official timeline but the timeline that I do accept is the one presented by gametrailers on their Zelda retrospec. There theory is the 2 timeline theory due to Link being sent back in time at the end of Zelda 64. That time continued without an adult link which led to only a few games where as most games came from the one where was sent back.
This explains oracle of ages and seasons very well too. I suggest you go to their site and watch the video. I would like to hear the flaws you find in it. My friend and I sat down and played every single Zelda game in existence and by the end of it, we looked at each other and decided not to even try to create our own theory.
My friends only suggestion was that there is NO timeline and that each game is a different understanding of the same legend"
*my text is not absolute the flaws i'm presenting in theories, may have flaws in themselves, these are my views and no one apart from nintendo can express official time lines*
The split time line theory is a commonly accepted theory so it's quite hard to disprove but I'll have ago anyway, i would believe the split time line too but at the end of ocarina of time Zelda says i will return you to YOUR original time meaning that the world of hyrule/whatever dimension hyrule is in, new laws of physics could apply, i.e. when you travel in time you age accordingly this happens when link acquires the master sword, and possibly again at the end of the game, thus at the beginning of major's mask we see a young link traveling through the lost woods and eventually into the land of Termina, this is why the entire game takes place and for all we know there is another, perhaps, older link fighting evil in hyrule in the exact same world, exact same time line, simultaneously.*I can simplify this on command but i don't feel it is necessary* I know im pushing it with the different laws of physics but no one i know has ever traveled through time so this could be a possible theory of time travel and one that nintendo has adopted for this game.
As for oracle of ages and oracle of seasons, i dont believe that a strong case can be built on any theory around these 2 games, this is because they were supposed to be released with a third game in a triforce pack,i believe it was avgn that said this but dont quote me on that someone said it...
They didn't release it in a triforce pack because they couldn't finish the third game in time i don't know which game this was it may have been one that has come out since, minish cap or phantom hour glass for instance or it could be another oracle based game still in development or scraped because it couldn't be released in time, this would make sense if they were going to be in a pack, then what would we have a time line split in three???!?!?!? i don't wanna even think about that theory.
Your friends views are possible but then you would have to do away with actual evidence from the man himself Shigeru Miyamoto check the avgn chronologically confused about Zelda video i don't want to waste time listening and then quoting the video.
*check my first blog for detals http://screwattack.com/node/8958*
Hmm
I had already watched the video from AVGN and I know what Shigeru had said, however... he has made many games since then and all though they claim to have some master list on some pc somewhere, I think they are really just trying to stretch things.
They had no plan for Zelda from Day 1 and with so many games it would be really hard to come up with a logical timeline now.
When Zelda sent Link back in time, that is what we call point A. In point A, only little Link exists as there is no future him as its the current time. In the future he becomes older but he remains the only Link as he does not repeat time travel to go forward again.
The world Link saved and was sent back from would be called point B. Point B would no longer exist due to the fact that the past has been fixed and so the current future would in fact be changed. Now you discuss the laws of physics which is the very arguement for why this universe could continue to exist.
Now in Wind Waker, the legend says Ganon comes back but there is no Link to fight him and so the gods intervened. This is because Link was sent back from point B. That is a legend of what happened to that future world that technically would no longer exist as the past is in essence fixed.
Now time travel can cause anybodies head to spin and who knows what is the real timeline if there really is on. Either way, it is something fun to debate.
Well...
Link also could have died of old age...just saying.
3rd Zelda
Not 100% sure, but I think the third game in the Oracle series was going to be a remake of the orignal The Legend of Zelda. I hear it was scrapped because it was too possible to create a link-up/password system that linked all three games. Maybe two, but not three.
He's right...
originally they were going to rerelease the first two zelda games on the gbc with along with the long awaited zelda 3 (not lttp, a sequel to Aol), but then they decided to make the games original instead of remakes. (You can tell they had already done some of the work of recreating the first zelda by looking at the bosses from oracle of seasons)
It was then they decided to make three games that could be played in any order using a password system, (They started working on it here.) but it became too complicated to come up with a system that could work with three games, so they scrapped the third game, which was to focus on Farore (the oracle that is) and made her the oracle of secrets.
Thus, we now have the two password linked games of the series, Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages.
What's weird is Farore was originally supposed to be the oracle that governed 'time' or something to that extent, making all three oracles governing something to deal with time, (Seasons and Ages and 'unspecified length of time')
These two games also were the first games to show us that while the triforce is an inanimate object, since it is made up of the power of the goddesses, they can speak through it occasionally and send little blond haired boys on errands in order to save the world.
new info
was just playing minish cap and found a little easter egg upstairs in one of the shops in hyrule town theres 3 girls standing in a line 2 of them are the oracles, whos the third? possibly a third oracle that never was. Could be a random girl i personally have no clue but it could be something to look into.
She was...
in the oracle games. She was the oracle of secrets who appeared in the talking trees at certain points in the games. She originally was to have her own game, but that game was scrapped due to complicated passwords being too complicated.
