Top 5 New Franchises that feel Old

Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Megaman, Castlevania, Kirby, Donkey Kong. These are all legendary gaming series, and all because they've been producing amazing games for amazingly long times. While Link, Mario and Samus have been working their asses off for more than 20 years to keep us entertained, there are some new franchises that keep you entertained too.

Then, there are the new games that you play once, then they immediately get whored out so much that you end up hating them.

This is those games.

Honourable Mentions:
Nintendogs: Cute at first, now annoying.
Cooking Guide: I don't need a game to act like a cookbook for me.
LEGO anything: Where's LEGO Grand Theft Auto? Now that's something I'd play...
Cooking Mama: (OMFG! I unl00cked teh rolling pin!!11)

5) Trauma Centre (Wii + DS)

While this game was ok a while, it really came down to on thing: providing a use for the Wiimote. And while it worked, for a while, it quickly became boring to operate on nonexistant people...
Also, did anyone else see the news that this game was being used as practise for doctors in medical school? I'm not sure about you, but I sure as hell wouldn't feel safe getting onto an operating table, breathing in some anaesthetic, and the last thing I hear before I fall asleep is:

"Don't worry, I did this on 6 virtual patients this morning... and 2 survived!"

4) Brain Training (Wii + DS)

This is Nintendo's way of saying 'Fuck you' to the hardcore, in fact, to ANY gamer who isn't a lonely 30 year old woman with more money than brains. What we saw when we got the DS was the opportunity to make games similar to the GBA, but with better graphics, 3D environments, and a touch screen. What we got was the ultimate casual game. Being told that you're smart will never be enough when you know that if you're playing the game, you're already stupider than anyone on Earth who is NOT playing the game.
Seriously, the final screen of the game must say something like,
"Congratulations! You are now smart enough to realise that this is a complete waste of time and doesn't actually make you smarter at all. We just liked messing with ya!"

3) Guitar Hero (Everything)

Don't get me wrong, I like Guitar Hero, but I liked it a lot better before it started whoring itself everywhere. Now that you can play clones of it online, play it on mobile phones, and even on the DS (warning: craptastic) it's hard to get excited over anything to do with this series any more.
Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, Guitar Hero: Metallica, Guitar Hero: REM (Yes, it was announced at E3).
Stop doing this to yourself, Guitar Hero! You used to be special! Now you've released 10 games in 2 years, I just can't get excited about anything you do.

2) Imagine (DS)

If you haven't heard of this series, I don't blame you, but after seeing some vomit-inducing commercials for it, I was well and truly finished with everything to do with the DS. MARKETTING A GAME SYSTEM AT GIRLS IS NOT GOING TO WORK THIS WAY!
Nobody wants to play 'Imagine: Teacher' where you play as a teacher and have exciting schedules such as tidying a room, or marking a test.
Then there's 'Imagine: Babies'. That's right. If you want to raise a virtual baby on a $150+ handheld and game now you can!
Looking at the wikipedia page, I'm surprised the series hasn't been killed yet, what with a grand total of 16 games, including 'Imagine: Fashion Designer' and 'Imagine: Masterchef'
SWEET JESUS, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU UBISOFT? NOBODY WANTS TO PRETEND TO BE A TEACHER OR A FASHION DESIGNER, ESPECIALLY IF THEY HAVE TO FECKING PAY FOR IT! WHAT MADE YOU THINK THIS WAS POSSIBLY A GOOD IDEA?
Lay this series to rest before we lose all faith in you, Ubisoft.

1) (You all saw this coming) Wii ANYTHING.

WiiSports: Well, this is pretty boring after a while, but I guess it's what the Wiimote was made for. I guess playing tennis isn't so bad for a few minutes.

WiiPlay: It's better than WiiSports, I guess... As long as we get something cool soon.

WiiFit: Well, going outside for a walk for about 10 minutes gets you more exercise than this... so it doesn't really get you fit, but it tells you it does... that's got to be worth something, right?

WiiChess: Ok, they're really scraping the bottom of the barrel now...

WiiMusic: For fuck's sake Nintendo, you'd better be giving us something good soon to make up for this pile of shit, ESPECIALLY as you had the nerve to unveil it at E3.

WiiSports Resort: NYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!

Seriously Nintendo, just wait and see how many people buy 'WiiSports 4'. No wonder the 360 is catching up to your selling rates. Fast.

Well, there are my top 5 new franchises that already feel like they've been run into the ground.
If you agree, disagree, or have your own suggestion, comment.

I agree in some cases, but...

but some of your statements are false:

WiiSports is a good game and it's free, nothing wrong with it, WiiPlay is just 10 bucks and WiiSports resort is gonna be the game that will introduce MotionPlus (swordfighting will be awesome, in both Red Steel 2 and WiiSports resort). Most of the Wii___ games are offering a free thing that is also used for other games. be happy Nintendo made a Zelda Zapper game instead of another WiiMii game.

The E3 of Nintendo wasn't so good (a few good Wii and DS games, Animal crossing, GTADS, Guitar hero 2 DS, the Conduit, madworld, Mega Man 9 and some more), but Nintendo made clear the E3 shows are aimed for casual players because newspapers and other media also produce news of the E3, so casual gamers will watch. If Nintendo made this clear before the E3 came, everyone would shut up about WiiMusic being sucky (If you don't like it, don't buy it or shit on it... just ignore it). Miyamoto has announced a new Pikmin, Zelda and Mario game for the Wii, so there are enough reasons to keep your Wii (and because Brawl is still awesome).

Just to make clear: Nintendo fucked up only once with casual stuff... Legend of Zelda Phantom hourglass on the DS! To damn easy, damn short, damn easy to play it for the full 100% (about 4 days?), stupid bad guy no1 cares about, stupid sequel to a great cube game. Please Nintendo, you lost your touch on the gameboy Zelda's after Links Awakening, leave the new Zelda games on the DS to Capcom... they did and awesome job on the Oracles and the Minish cap.

The sales of the Xbox360 this week is not made possible by Microsoft himself, just because the Japanese guys love Tales of games, they buy a console just for that game, kind of the same with Blue Dragon. Sales will go down to 1000 per week in a few weeks in Japan.

For me, Guitar hero isn't old... since GHIII is my first one and On tour my second one (haven't got much choice as a Fanboy on I and II). Guitar hero On tour is a damn awesome game, i bet you don't owned it or only have played it for 10 minutes or so. Give it a chance.
I love the Guitar hero: Band idea, Aerosmith is awesome, Metallica is awesome, Bon Jovi is awesome (Acitivion, please?).
World tour is going to be awesome, even on the Wii... good graphics being close to the 360 version, DLC without storage problems (2gigabyte SD card for 8 bucks, anyone?), perfect drumset that overlaps rock band, new and better songs (Bon Jovi - livin' on a prayer in Guitar hero, a dream come true), guitar hero III les paul controller compatablity and Band vs Band gameplay.

Whew, long comment, hope you liked it (please PM me if you wish to discuss something, don't think this blog will stay forever on the homepage).

What about Halo?

No, honestly, Halo.
Halo had three games. And I was sick of it by number two.
Now they threw in Halo 3.
I don't know why, but I think 2 of them was enough.
Now compared to Zelda or Metroid, I don't think 2 of those were enough, you know, just like Contra. Contra, Super C, Contra 3 and 4 anyway.

Halo 4?

I bet you can't wait for number 4 then can you, lol.

I would, but...

I'm not a big Halo fan either, but they only have 3 games, and I'm not sure if they're planning another. Plus, it's not really a 'new' franchise.
Still, if they start making Super Halo 4 Turbo: Hyper Edition, I'll be sure to edit this blog to include it.

Um...

Someone has been reading *cough* copying *cough* the GamesRadar top lists....

:(

Yeah, I did read that list...
But I added 2 franchises. Plus, I have a burning hatred for games that begin with Wii-

actually the wii thing in te

actually the wii thing in te titles its like a trademark , on the snes everything was super on the 64 everything was 64 and so on and on

halo...old?

i could agree with that, but im sure in 4, theyll hopefully make some drastic changes, to keep it fresh.

Kudos

I fucking hate Wii Sports. Everyone chants about how good of a game it is, but it's so over rated. I wrote a review on Gamespot before I clued in to the whole inaccurate ratings thing. I don't see why all those games couldn't just be one, honestly, there's no way the programming could come close to filling that disk. Especially when most of the sprites aren't even on the disk.
