What I don't get about this whole thing are the people, and now g1s throwing a fit that GT made a mistake. Yes, they derped and they owned up to it. What more do you expect? Hell I bet a good 80% of the people who saw that episode didn't even know that Totaka's Song even existed. At the very least they brought more attention to the subject.
I just don't hear it.
I'm going to take the audio of just the hits and run them through a tuner.....That will clear it all up. Maybe I'll post a blog of it.
GameTrailers has stated that they are redoing this one because of the negative feedback it has gotten. And it's justified because the song is simply NOT THERE.
For those who say they're hearing it, listen for the actual pitches; don't think about the song. It's not there. It's just two pitches repeating, while the actual song requires at least eight to represent its nineteen notes. The only reason why you hear it is because your brain wants you to hear it. You can make those sound effects sync to anything and it would sound like something you know.
Mmm...not sure if true since you just matched the pacing there but I can't say it's false.

Darn I was kinda hoping they had joined up with screwattack. oh well.
i could hear it(only the pure one counts imo) . but it was very vague,i dunno how anyone can notice such thing. taking into account that the hits of the tennis rackets have such delays, that even searching for it would be difficult. although i guess if your really dedicated and puzzeld alot with recordings you might find out. but otherwise..wth..
Doesn't sound like the tone is being changed at all to me. Seems like it's edited to match the pace but thats it.

I like this show but I think they got it wrong with this one.
You can make ANY sound effect sound like a certain song (Totaka's song in this case) if you play at certain speed / etc.
So don't think this is the place where they hid the song IF it(s in Wii sports in the first place

TY JRokujuushi. I was starting to worry the entire internet believed this BS, why it's blatently obvious (to me at least) that those sound effects sound like nothing at all really. I can't believe GT actually wen't through with this either.
I tried it, and I heard a different song.
Not really, though.
As for equipment and software, it may be more powerful than what you have, but I'm in audio production so I've got plenty of stuff to help out. I took a spectrum analyzer and adjusted the scale so you can actually see what pitch is being played, then I ran the audio from the video clip through it, using the original reference version of Totaka's Song followed by the supposed version made by the tennis racquet hits. Here's the original.
The brightest spots near the bottom are the root harmonic of each note, and the others are the harmonics that combine to create the particular synthesized waveform. As you can see, the notes are very distinct, and if you draw a horizontal line across the screen through the root harmonic, it shows you which note is being played on the keyboard, ranging from C4 to C5. (In fact, they're actually playing slightly flat, so they don't perfectly line up, but it's close enough.) Now let's look at the sound effects.
The loudest frequencies tend to hover between A#5 and C6. There are some other frequencies that stand out a bit, but they don't follow the pattern of the original. Look at the last three notes, for example. In the original song, it plays D4, up to G4, down to C4. In the sound effects, there is a noticeable harmonic that plays D5, down to C#5, up to D5. So it's going down then up, instead of up then down like Totaka's song.
If that wasn't damning enough evidence, you can try the cross-eye trick to make the visualization of one hit match up with the visualization of another hit. There are three noticeable silences in the sound effects, and the hits directly after each silence all match up with each other, save for some minor discrepancies due to other sounds being played. If you look at the corresponding notes on the first image, you have G4, D4, and C4. If it really was Totaka's song, there's no way notes that are a perfect fifth apart would be represented by the exact same sound.
Basically, if you're actually hearing the song in the racquet hits, it's a psychoacoustic effect caused by you wanting or expecting to hear it, not because it's actually there. I've experienced this same phenomenon myself as a child when my dad's alarm would go off in the other room and I'd start thinking to myself. Eventually my thoughts would start to sync up so I'd think in time with the beeps, and it would sound like the alarm was talking, even though it obviously wasn't.
I heard it. the last note missed the park completely, but otherwise, it's Tokaka's song. Nintendo really have screwed us sideways with this one. It's one of those that could be true, and could turn out to be false, I dunno, but I think that it's a fact. Remember, they have recording equipment and software far more powerful than ours. I'd like Scrweattack to themselves try this out...
