This year's SAGY's are going to be packed to the gills at this rate...

February 25, 2013 - 4:31pm

Wow, well that sucks. I have a friend who was looking forward to this game (I was too but I had less hopes of grandeur). I'll have to tell him it isn't the AvP 2 style gameplay/experience we've both been waiting for since..Uh, AvP 2 lol.

theentertainmentguy

February 25, 2013 - 3:56pm

I admit I was disappointed with this game.

KataWolf

February 25, 2013 - 12:59pm

Gearbox has proven that they certainly know how to make a good game, but this definitely isn't one. I mean, what happened to those awesome-looking demos we saw before the game came out? This has to be one of the few times in which demos and previews look far better than the final product in pretty much every way. Also, why the balls did they outsource single player development to Timegate? (for a clearer comparison, here you go http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1orK2qj_9k)

And if that "Taking Sega's funding and using it on Borderlands" story is true and not just some rage post that Jim Sterling came up with, then... damn. This is fucked up beyond belief.

February 25, 2013 - 9:03am

Game reviews must not mean as much as they used to because this game is selling really well.... it blew Dead Space 3 out of the water and is making a buttload of $$$. It's sad that they can put a piece of crap like this out there and it still comes out rosy.

Odakicity

February 25, 2013 - 6:41pm

It's because moron's who think they're gamers think FPS' are always better than everything. This game looks so bad it makes Duke Nukem Forever look good.

PhantomExdeath

February 25, 2013 - 8:50am

Yo Shauntern's back? Get him to Play on Screwing Around again if he's by the office on a Friday :P

Anyways sounds like another case of putting too much action in a game that should've been survival horror.... trying to go for mass appeal is killing that genre :/

Omega Riddler

February 25, 2013 - 7:19am

After watching this Review and Jared's One Minute Review, the only way I would get this game is if it were £5 or less. Any bets on how long it will take for the multiplayer servers to be dead?

lunalicrichard

February 25, 2013 - 2:53am

I am a fan of the films and i will get this when it hits the budgetbin . For 5 euro's .

Sword of Battle

February 25, 2013 - 1:17am

Tis sad that a game has to go through so much crap, unfortunately in this case it had to be Aliens. Also not to nit pick but when he said Drake's flamethrower I think he meant Frost's flamethrower.

ShaunMcLane

February 25, 2013 - 3:05am

Yeah, good call.. It should of been called Drake's flamethrower though. . . He's the one that kicked ass with it.

hazelnut1112

February 25, 2013 - 12:06am

I hope Sega sues the hell out of Gearbox for this crap. Sega funds Gearbox 60million dollars out of their pocket to work on this game. Yet these assholes go and outsource the game and use the money Sega gave them to work on Borderland 1 and 2, completely shafting Sega with a 6 year development hell with this game and releasing a mediocre piece of crap shooter. Also showing false demo footage of the game. I hope Gearbox loses a lot of money because of this.

JxL

February 25, 2013 - 8:59am

There is no need to sue, the game is selling really well....it may end up being the best-selling "bad" game of all time :P

Tom the Iron Man

February 25, 2013 - 12:32am

If the rumors about the contract are true, all that Gearbox was obligated to do other than meet the milestones required by Sega was to "ship the game" and that's it. I don't know how much they can chase them down unless they get access to where exactly all the money went.

Xaxal Eternitum

February 24, 2013 - 9:33pm

This games just screams one thing: I need to play some Starship Troopers.

ShaunMcLane

February 24, 2013 - 11:55pm

I wish. I would love to partake in the defense of Ft. Joe Smith.

Xaxal Eternitum

February 25, 2013 - 4:48am

Isn't it pretty easy to get the PC version of Starship Troopers these days? (Played it recently and seeing all these Colonial Marines stuff just reminds me way too much of it. And by easy, you probably will get the iDea [Downloads are fun]).

Dark Magician

February 24, 2013 - 6:01pm

I think people are too critical of the game.

ZigTheHunter

February 24, 2013 - 11:16pm

honestly a 4 is a little to lenient for this game, outside of minor novelties, it has nothing substantial going for it.

Agatio

February 24, 2013 - 6:22pm

Ummm, i mean no offense. You're welcome to an opinion. but have you actually played it?

Dark Magician

February 24, 2013 - 6:28pm

People expect too much. Yeah the shotgun is overpowered. That just makes it more fun to kill things. Its a dumb shooter because all shooters are dumb unless your like Deus Ex, what do you expect? Your gonna be having a lot of dumb fun.

ZigTheHunter

February 24, 2013 - 11:17pm

the thing is, most people don't want a dumb fun shooter out of an aliens game, and dumb fun shooters have been done way better elsewhere.

ShaunMcLane

February 24, 2013 - 7:28pm

The problem with overpowered weapons in a game like this, is that it leaves all the other weapons completely insignificant.

Dark Magician

February 24, 2013 - 7:31pm

All I would want to use is the shotgun. What better way to kill something? Nobody had any problem with it in a game like the original Doom.

Scourge626

February 24, 2013 - 10:39pm

Except this is an Alien game. Shotguns mean acid blood sprays everywhere. And it makes the game too easy. Well, easier than it already is. And people are not people overly critical. We know when we see a demo of something that it isn't the finished product. But when they showed this years ago, it actually looked better than it does now. That's because they weren't even halfway done developing the game when they showed it off. And the developers kept hyping up the game saying it was unique, Alien fans would love it, and all that stuff and when it finally came out, we got this. Now, some people may be overly hurt from being played like this, but the game, even if it is supposed to be a dumb shooter, has to be fun. This is not fun.

Dark Magician

February 24, 2013 - 11:32pm

Most shooters are dumb, unless your Deus Ex. Killing everything with the shotgun is a lot fun. Why do the Xenomorphs have to be super stealthy and sneak up on you and have to have insanely smart AI on par with the movie. Its a video game, its like why don't most of the enemies in NES Contra carry guns and all try shoot you? Gotta take some liberties.

ShaunMcLane

February 24, 2013 - 11:52pm

They have to be super stealthy because that's how they are in the films, and truth to the films is what we were promised, and not given. There are shooters besides Deus Ex that are smart (Bioshock), and Contra was made over 25 years ago. I expect better quality in games that are decades apart.

Dark Magician

February 25, 2013 - 9:06am

Sure they could have made the Xenomorphs more sneaking and smart, but then you run a risk of being like another Dead Space. But they wanted more action. Whats more fun than blowing chunks out of Xenomorphs with a shotgun? Why complicate that?

Scourge626

February 25, 2013 - 10:09am

Because it's a game based off the Alien series in which you are supposed to be scared shitless. Hard to do that when all you have to do is shotgun everything in the face.

Dark Magician

February 24, 2013 - 10:44pm

Thats what you think.

hazelnut1112

February 25, 2013 - 12:08am

clearly you are one of those brain dead Call of Duty fans that just expect to shoot things and eat it up. If you ever watched the Aliens movies, you would see why people hate this. It is just another dumb shooter with no atmosphere. The Aliens just walk around with stiff animation and just pass you with no effort. This game is crap, and like I said. It was only intended for the brain dead Call of Duty fanbase.

Dark Magician

February 25, 2013 - 8:51am

I've seen all the Alien films, even Resurrection, AVP, AVPR, and Prometheus. Yeah its brain dead action shoot everything up type of deal. Why does there have to be something wrong with that? Its a video game. Not much you can do with the Canon. It be pretty meaningless if they tried to introduce some strong protagonist and storyline with a big plot twist near the end. Simply, no one would give a crap because its so far separated from the films.

Funny that you bring up Call of Duty, Black Ops 2 got a better overall score, but because this game has to suck up to the high expectations of Alien fans, it gets shit on. You see something wrong there?

Scourge626

February 25, 2013 - 10:08am

There's always going to be something wrong with someone. Nothing's perfect. And just because it's a video game doesn't mean it doesn't have to hold itself up to a certain standard. Especially seeing how this is people's lives. If they make a bad game, they don't sell and they lose credibility so people will be less likely to but other games from them. Even if they are trying to tie it in with the movie, there were plenty of ways to go through that other than a that surprise twist at the end. And it is meaningless to introduce a strong protagonist and plot near the end of a game which is why you do that at the beginning. But you are wrong about no one giving a crap about how separated from the film it was. If the game was never meant to be Canon, that's one thing but if you make it so the game is then the standard they had to follow was the Alien films, which they didn't.

Scourge626

February 24, 2013 - 10:57pm

If you think its fun good on you. But I take no enjoyment in a shooter game where I can clear most of the levels without firing my gun once.

LousyTactician

February 24, 2013 - 5:48pm

Back to Aliens: Infestation for me.

Ruzlok

February 24, 2013 - 5:41pm

Where exactly has creature vs human been done better? Dead Space multiplayer is good, but I wouldn't say it's better. Left 4 Dead definitely isn't better. The aliens have so much more movement and options than the creatures in L4D.

Mad-Mutt

February 24, 2013 - 5:09pm

The best way to describe this game is that it is a disaster. They're hardly a reason to keep playing it. The multi-player matches are the only good part of the game and not even they last that long. I so wanted this game to be good not the packaged piece of crap it turned out to be.

darkhyrulelord

February 24, 2013 - 4:47pm

Shaun reviewed this SAGY contender? Man, I feel for you. I remember a lot of people looking forward to this game, and it's a massive shame that it didn't live up to expectations. It is weird that the best part of the game is when you are weaponless indeed.

Ruzlok

February 24, 2013 - 5:33pm

Games never live up to massive amounts of hype.

werdman24

February 24, 2013 - 2:39pm

Such a shame, I was looking forward to the game as well. To be honest, the only Aliens movie I've ever fully watched was AvP, and this game is not gonna coerce me to buy.

TheBigBoss91

February 24, 2013 - 2:36pm

Gearbox can't seem to do anything right unless it has "Borderlands" in the title. and even at that a lot of the over prices DLC is garbage. I saw a lot of potential in Gearbox and now I'm seriously wondering if it was misplaced...

Albino Rhino

February 24, 2013 - 5:11pm

Feel the same. Even then, Borderlands 1 and 2 were alright but I truthfully didn't feel like they were as amazing as others felt (and yes, I did play with friends, ha ha!)

Scourge626

February 24, 2013 - 2:26pm

Late to the party on this one. People have been ragging on this game for weeks now. Especially Jim Sterling. He has been hounding them relentlessly, and justifiably so, ever since he reviewed the game.

Goobly

February 25, 2013 - 8:42pm

Jim Sterling ragging on something? Did he throw some masturbatory jokes into his review as usual? I guess the game didn't measure up to his high standards as the short and repetitive Lollipop Chainsaw did.

Ruzlok

February 24, 2013 - 5:32pm

Ragging on someone because you didn't like their game is not justifiable. It's douchy.

Scourge626

February 24, 2013 - 11:00pm

As a reviewer, he didn't dislike the game because it wasn't his preference, it was just a bad game. The Aliens were clunky and moved like idiots, got stuck, and weren't really scary. The graphics were not much to talk about, you could beat most of the missions without firing your gun once (try it), you have to play the game on its hardest difficulty to get a semblance of a challenge, you spend too much time fighting humans in an Aliens game, the final boss fight is pathetic, and the best mission in this Shooter game is when you are weaponless. How can the best a part in a Shooter game be when you are weaponless? Now if this was a survival horror this would make all the sense in the world. But he's been hounding them because of other reasons. He's been trying to find out why the developers did not deliver what was promised, which of the three game companies apart of this messed up where, and generally what went wrong with this game. This is because he really likes the Alien movies and this game is just a disappointment to that franchise and an insult to the people who love the series and were waiting for this game for years.

armodillo17

February 24, 2013 - 10:15pm

I'm not sure you know why Mr. Sterling is hounding them. It has very little to do with his taste for the game.

hazelnut1112

February 25, 2013 - 12:11am

It has to do with Gearbox lying to everyone including Sega themselves. Sega gave them 60million dollars in funding to make this Aliens game and were under contract. Geabox decided to use that money to fund Borderlands 1 and 2, plus they didn't work on Aliens, they gave it to a different comapny to work on it and gave them crap funding. It took them 6 years, and those demos they showed were no way part of the game. Sega should sue Gearbox for this crap and I hope they go under because of this.

Scourge626

February 25, 2013 - 12:24am

When I said that they were late to the party, I meant the party of disappointment and anger. Sterling likes the Alien franchise and is disappointed it did poorly and angry with all the stuff happening behind closed doors. And so is everyone else following this sh*t storm.
